Quick Facts:
Name: Savage
ID:50850... however please note while stealthed scanners will not pick him up.
Family: Cat (standard - available to all hunter specs)
Level: 85
Tracks: Bloody Tracks (his tracks are now forward, not backwards! Tracks de-spawn approx 10-15mins after being laid. If tracking any of these rares I suggest going to system and selecting the lowest setting for ground clutter as it makes a huge different IMHO.)
Spawner: 2hrs
Zone: Jade Forest

Savage is one of nine (for now) stealthed elite beasts of Pandaria that only Hunters can track*. Savage is tracked in the Jade Forest (Glimmer also spawns in Jade Forest but the two paths never cross.) He zig-zags and semi loops obstacles from NE (starting at the top of the cliff overlooking Sri-la Village) walking slowly diagonally to SW (look at the map above, the dots almost perfectly map his route.) Be sure to keep an eye out for tracks on rocks as he leaves 'Bloody Tracks' which are a dark green track and can be hard to see on the forest floor, reducing ground clutter improves seeing these tracks but when he walks on rocks sometimes only a toe can be seen.

He is just beautiful. He is white with black stripes and is unique. In the shade he does look grey like Ro'Shen and the Summit Prowlers but they have blue eyes with pupils while Savage has full blue eyes with no pupil so to the trained eye he still stands out. Right now he looks a little 'fake' as he has a odd shadow line all around him... but still pretty.

I've never seen him spawn and only come across his tracks a few times, all different sections of his patrol, so will update if I ever do see them spawn in a particular spot. I'm finding, out of all the rares, he is spawning more often then not and it's reported a full lap of his patrol (from one point to the other and back again) is 1h 10min (35mins each length) but I've never stuck around to test this. I find he walks really slow, slower then Glimmer, which is annoying when setting off the flare, but that could be anticipation/budding excitement/frustration talking and he might be walking the same pace as the others.... just saying, it feels slower.

Don't forget when you flare and see him put Hunter's mark on him, hunter's mark allows you to forever see him once he exits the flare, failing to do so will result in him stealthing again, regardless if you're trying to tame him.

*In MoP Hunters have the automatic ability of spotting rare tracks left by stealthed elite beasts, no other class can see these tracks. In order to tame one of these nine you must first find some tracks, follow those tracks and when you hit the end of the tracks fire off a flare and hold-your-breath-cross-your-fingers-prey-to-whomever that it reveals the stealthed beast. If not rinse and repeat until it exposes the stealthy elite. Once uncovered by a flare it's open season so flag ASAP

Dear Fellow Hunters,

I just tamed Savage on Aggramar Server, 2.28am GMT.

Things you'll want to note.

As of patch 5.1 Savages paw prints now face in the correct direction. If a paw print is pointing towards you it means he's heading right towards you!

Just follow the tracks (they're kinda hard to see in certain parts of the Jade Forest) as best you can. As others have stated, turning down your ground clutter to LOW can really make a difference and when you get to what looks like the last track in your sight, fire a flare about 10 meters ahead of you. If he doesn't show, pop Readiness and flare again a little further.

You can tag Savage with Hunters Mark so he doesn't vanish, and make sure you have your pet put away for a quick tame as soon as you see him! If you're having trouble keeping him still, try an ice trap before he wanders out of your range.

UPDATE

For those on the Aggramar server, Alliance Side, I am willing to help you find and track Savage if I'm not busy in a dungeon. I've done this already for a few grateful hunters who were having trouble at finding this beautiful big companion. I'm well versed in his travel path, and I know the best places to pick up his trail. Just whisper me in-game and I'll be glad to assist.

Picked him up on what I believe to be a server first tame on Kilrogg EU at 2:48am GMT, less than 4 hours after launch.

Tracked him for over an HOUR (level 85), as the tracks kept disappearing, doubling back on themselves etc. Finally tracked him down outside the Greenmason's location in the north of the zone (not far from Dawn's Blossom on the map), and got him tamed without any interference from other players (thankfully).

~~As Mandibles pointed out, the Bloody Tracks at this point in time do still need to be followed counter-intuitively BACKWARDS.~~* Expect to have to look around a fair bit, and not always exactly in the direction the ~~heel~~* toes point towards either, so expect to look around and a fair bit of distance at times (40yds+ between tracks at times) in order to track this beauty down.

Tip: Turn ground and environmental clutter down to their minimum settings in order to see the tracks a lot easier. You can spot the tracks from a good distance away, given reduced clutter and visual interference.

Tip #2: He CAN be ice trapped, so use that if needed, and remember to glyph Tame Beast for the reduced tame cast!

Edit: Got the Co-Ordinates: 49.2, 29.3 - between the Greenstone Mason's Quarters and the steps leading round to Flightmaster Towsa :)

2nd Edit: Why is this being downvoted? It gave some of the earliest, useful information regarding tracking, location and how to spot the tracks?

*3rd Edit: The tracks are now fixed in 5.1, and are now pointing the RIGHT WAY. Follow them forwards to track Savage (and the other rares), not backwards now!

Tamed her on U.S. realm Zangarmarsh about one hour after the Midnight launch pacific time. Didn't do any other starter quests other than the boat battle at the start. Parachuted down and headed up to find the tigress. I started in the middle of her path just above the 'D' in Dawn's Blossom and headed east using Camouflage the whole time to avoid all the mobs (with Cheetah of course). Picked up her tracks just southeast of the cave above Dawn's Blossom. Tracks very easy to see even from a distance with Ground Clutter on 'fair'. The tracks went nearly all the way to the northeast end of her path ending south of the river south of Sri-La Village. I was suprised they went on so long. As reported by Mandibles the tracks are still backwards so follow them with the heels pointing toward the kitty. Another surprise was that she didnt stop walking until the taming cast was nearly half done, then she turned and ran at me. For a few secs i was wondering if the taming was actually working even with the little hearts flying all over the place. She is a beautiful puddytat with eyes as blue as a Montana sky. GL2all.

Just tamed him on Kazzak - EU 14:08 server time. It took me over an hour to track him. Thanks to Mandibles for the hint about the backwards tracking. It helped me a lot. He does not hit very hard but you can always icetrap him and get the glyph of Tame Beast to help you.

A hint to people trying to tame him, lower down your enviromental and ground cluster details to low to help you see the tracks better.

I saw the bloody tracks. Went backwards. Couldn't see where the next one was... flared. Nothing. Flared again. Nothing.. back tracked to start over and the tracks were gone. What does that mean?

Just tamed on Fenris Server at 1:45 PM. Pretty sure server's first tame. 8 )
Absolutely worth the hour chasing those paw prints.

Hard to keep track of the "bloody tracks" so definitely turn ground clutter off in graphics settings. I'm not certain if I was following tracks forward or backwards, I was just running along his path. However, if you are following the tracks and suddenly they stop - use Flare because you might be on top of him. He doesn't appear to automatically unstealth if you are close to him and target macros and tracking Hidden and Beasts doesn't seem to affect him. You have to use Flare.

@Caterwaul: I had the same problem, however by following his path I managed to find the tracks again. Took me over an hour to finally find him at the very northern end of his path, but I did have to find the trail again a few times after the tracks despawned.

Also Saruya's tip about turning ground and environmental clutter down worked wonders, thanks for that!

About 2 hours ago (maybe 3? I've been busy hunting, not tracking time) someone said they tamed Savage. I started tracking just to get the hang of the route and after a while, I started seeing tracks (backwards, of course) and followed them from east of Greenstone to the river with the jade cats, where I lost track for 10 minutes. I went further down the path and saw the tracks were now facing the other way, and tracked him all the way to north of Greenstone, around where I first spotted the tracks.

Rare hunting this way actually feels like hunting. Trying to guess where the beast lurks and setting a flare there, following tracks, just moments behind it. This was far more exciting then getting Loque or Skarr.

EDIT- Christ, some real hunter hate going on here, no comments above 0 points? Lemme fix that.

Tamed him today on Guldan about 2:30 sever time.. i was following paw prints for about 45 mins, and i missed him once, but i got him.... the backward print thing worked like a charm thx guys and GL

Just tamed him 01:26 server time on Bladefist EU.
The tracks still appear backwards as a few others already have mentioned. So if it looks like he went one way then the opposite direction is where he actually went.

Found his tracks north of the Arboretum around 57,38 (on the tip of the T in The Arboretum that's printed on the map). Tracked him all the way to the end of his walk path at 54,24 (between Emperor's Omen and Sri-La Village) where I tamed him.

He walks from there, 54,24, all the way down to 37,64 and that road has a lot of turns on it!

Found this video with a map in it with his walk path in it, a real life saver if you manage to lose his tracks!

Hunter Jahwolf has tamed the beast! Server Firetree I believe around 11am ish.

His tracks are reversed so if the front of his paw is facing south, you need to go north and vice versa. Drop a flare just a little ahead of the last bloody track you've seen.

Just Tamed on Nordrassil @ 11:30 pm.

I didn't realize what I was tracking, but I was bored and started seeing all these tracks on the ground. I followed them around for about 15 minutes and took a break for a while because I wasn't seeing what they were leading to. At this point I got it in my head to look up rares. Bam, turned out I was tracking a rare. Took about another 40 minutes to try and get ahead enough to spam flare. It was worth the effort.

The tracks are still backwards. Thankfully, they point in the direction Savage is going. It works much like archeology. Shame flare radius isn't larger, I almost missed it because I was off by just tad.

Just tamed him 5 min ago on Stormrage EU.

Kept shooting flare a few yards after each footprint.
Ran this way about 6-7 min after the first, and found him eventually..
He's not moving very fast, as he's prowling, so you should be able to get ahead pretty quickly.

Tracks are stil reversed.

Her tracks were annoying to follow (as still counter-intuitively they're backwards), but it wasn't too awful finding them to the end, especially using the map when I lost them. I eventually caught up to her right at the top of her route, though oddly after flare-ing and Hunters Marking, my Tame Beast didn't aggro her (neither did shooting her with an arrow :s). Eventually she walked out of the range of Tame Beast, so I ran on top of her and repeated the process--luckily even though she didn't want to attack me she seemed to still want to be my pet ;)

VERY happy to have her be my first MoP pet. Beautiful cat--now to think of a name!

Tamed him at 9:10am server on Eredar, Wednesday morning after pandaland went Live.

Tracks are still backwards, and he seems to walk up and down the forested corridor between Emporer's Omen and the Jade witch. At least that's the only place I've seen tracks.

As said by others tracks are difficult to spot, but the easiest place I found to check for them was on the tight strip of land around the lake with the raft, just north east of the Bamboo area Forest Heart.

I see hunters camping around his spawn points waiting on NPC scan to go off. It wont work. He's not stealthed either. He's invisible and you need to flare him.

Me being lazy I didn't bother to read this and was running around like a knobber last night mashing a target macro and waiting for NPC scan to go off before I gave up and went to bed. :/

I tamed him early today and his bloody tracks were backwards for me too. I followed them around for about 15 minutes. He kept going back and forth all the time. He's quite a fast patroller.

I got him walking clockwise around the mountain on the map that's just above the Arboretum. There's an arch around there and I could see by the tracks he was walking towards it so I waited and stuck a flare under it and he showed up a few seconds later.
Doesn't hit hard (I'm 86).

Caught Savage at 10:04 AM Eastern on Bonechewer. I'm confirming that the bloody pawprints ARE STILL BACKWARDS. It was a bit tough, since he doesn't place them down consistently and they could be anywhere from 5 yards to 30 yards from eachother (Just a rough estimate). If and when you DO find the pawprints (Remember to follow them in the opposite direction of the pawprint), be sure to use a flare to where you think he might be going next, as he is FULLY invisible, the only way to make him appear being with a flare. After appearing, the tame is just like any other tame, freezing trap and tame pet (I didn't even bother using freezing trap and it still worked anyway with about 120k/150k health). His location at the time of taming: Just north of Greenstone Village. Hope all of this helps. Good luck hunting! ~Tiger

Edit: I did forget to mention, you should be using the flares once you find the last pawprint that you see around you, especially if you actually see the pawprints appearing infront of you.

Just tamed him on Anvilmar...found a bloody print then put out a flare in that direction. She stealthed agian before I could tame her so I just put out another flare and taming was piece of cake...good luck hunters! By the way HE IS BEAUTIFUL!

It took me about 20 minutes from finding tracks to tame it.

As someone already mentioned, it's better to hunt in camouflage, so wandering mobs won't hit You.
It's tracks are still working backwards.

Tamed on Echo Isle 5:45 server, tracks are backwards, first time click tamed and got invalid target, hit readiness, and flared again, second time tamed no problem, amazing looking tiger.

saw her at the beginning of her run at the bottom of the map. i just stayed there camoflauged and kept spamming flare. waited about 30 mins give or take. easy tame. im on exodar server. and it was about 645 pm my time, 945 pm realm time, she is a beauty...good luck.

As of 9-27-2012 he appears to be on a 1-hour timer and the prints are still pointing backwards. A hunter tamed him while I was looking for him. I came back exactly an hour later and found fresh tracks at the southern spawn point.

I did have one small issue; I could not slap a hunter's mark on him when he was at the edge of the flare, just before going invisible and no longer targeted. So, I'd advise you to be really quick with the mark or you will have to follow his tracks a little further until flare is off cooldown again. Wasn't a big problem, just annoying.

Although Savage is labeled as an elite with a golden dragon nameplate, he does not hit like one.

I spend less than an hour looking for this rare. There was nobody else at this point tracking him at about 8:55am eastern on Alexstrasza. Just north of The Arboretums I noticed "bloody tracks" you should absolutely follow the tracks. They were going in the right direction as to where I found him. Of course when you see the last track, throw a flare a small distance from that track and out pops Savage in Prowl. Awesome looking cat with those cool blue eyes. Good luck Hunters.

Key points - You must track the footprints backwards! Apparently these beasts Moonwalk!

I stood and watched the footprints appear and waited for the next one, flare, boom.
Straight forward tame.

What you need to know:

1 - MARKING DOES NOT ALLOW OTHERS TO SEE! I marked him today for another hunter to tame and he could not see until he used his flare. So while it is possible for others to see in the flare - marking him doesn't allow others to see!

2 - ~~You still have to follow the tracks backwards.~~ As of 5.1 the tracks are now facing the right direction.

3 - MOP RARE MAPS will show the paths of the rares.

4 - If you hunt mounted or in camo it allows you to escape mobs easier (jade tiger area camo recommended).

5 - The respawn is fairly short, 45 min to 1 hour seems to be the average for most.

Tamed today on Duskwood at 12:37

Started from the West side trail path and worked my way over to the East.

I used the map on the linked video on Petopia - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AJsK4_pagFM&feature=player_detailpage#t=76s

Found him near his start point on the East, right by the trail under Sri-La Village's name on the map. He was doubled back and I had two trails of Bloody Footprints to deal with.

Tracks are still backwards.
He is not stealthed, you need to use your flare to see him.
NPC scan doesn't go off for him.
Lower your settings, mainly the ground clutter, to avoid lots of grass obstructing your vision.

Just caught Savage on Earthern Ring at 12:41 am server time. The tracks are still backwards when tracking and you can use NPC Scan. Type in the 50850 in NPS Scan and if you follow the tracks BACKWARDS it'll go off once you set a flare up at the last bloody track you see. The tracks look like an outline only. Really easy to tame just used Ice Trap then tame. Found him by the NE spawn point heading back. Beautiful Cat happy hunting everyone!

Thank you for the advice, it was very helpful! If you go to wow-petopia there is a video there with his path. I paused the vid, followed the path, found the paw prints, popped flare a few times after I ran out of prints and boom, there's Savage. Easy tame. Got him on Hydraxis 11:30 central. Beautiful pet. And yes, follow the tracks backwards. I camoflaged through mobs while tracking.

I just tamed savage on aszune server Europe at 8 am.

It is a nightmare trying to follow the tracks so make sure u have found a map online that you can follow if you lose them!

If you use camaflauge it helps as you don't keep getting attacked by mobs.

You still have to follow the tracks backwards.

I tamed him 2 days ago just after launch on Wildhammer EU. The most frustrating part of the tame was having him walk out of the flare zone and disappear again or change direction.

Word of advice, as soon as you flare him out, tag him with a shot or else you end up having to follow prints again. The foot prints stand out very well when ground clutter is turned off, so tracking is pretty easy.

I tracked from SHA LA village and tamed him around the lil lake north of Dawns Blossom.

Just tamed Savage at 445am realm time on moonrunner at the NE spawn point right when he turns around...tracks are still backwards as of this morning..i love the way blizzard has made this more of a challenge instead of just camping one spot forever, plus it takes the moron non-hunter pet killers out of the mix

Tamed yesterday on Frostwolf at level 85. The tracks are still backwards as of now, so keep that in mind.

Note that he won't appear even if you're standing right on top of him. You have to use Flare otherwise he won't show up. Track Hidden didn't help. I suspect that he uses invisibility instead of stealth. Make sure you use your flare a little ahead of where he might be so that he walks over it and gives you enough time to mark him. Ice trap wasn't necessary to complete the tame. He doesn't hit very hard and didn't seem to have any special attacks.

As others have said, turning Ground Clutter to Low really helped see the tracks. The tracks are relatively small and look like little piles of raised dirt with paw print indentations in them. If you mouse over them, the tooltip will say "Bloody Footprint".

Just tamed this lovely looking cat. I found him where he first spawns in the Northeast, right by the family of red looking raccoon's walking back and forth. I kept my flare up for about an hour and low and behold, he walked right into it. I marked him, dismissed my current pet (The lovely black tiger), then began the tame. He didn't attack me when I started the tame. He just kept walking off rather quickly. So I suggest not messing around with it. You don't want him to get outta range, while you are in mid tame.

just tamed it at 4.54am, just wanted to confirm that the paw prints are still in reverse, if you see one, go the other way! i used the map linked from wowhuntersunion.com and it worked, i was able to track it from just east of the dookin grounds to just north of the arboretum where i'd become so confident in the map that i was able to get ahead of the beast and sit there dropping flares until he walked straight into my path, easy tame, didn't even put up a fight. look at the map and go to the lake north/west of dawns blossom for an easy place to pick up his tracks as he paths right around the edge of the lake, hope this helps :)

Hello everyone I was able to tame this lovely tiger on Aggramar at 11:19pm server time(12:19am EST). In order to find him you still need to follow the tracks backwards. The tip mentioned earlier in the posts to turn down the ground clutter helped out alot. I highly suggest doing that since the tracks are not big and can hide in the clutter.

I started tracking at point 56.36, 33.11 and I tamed at point 57.33, 37.21.

Hello Fellow Hunters....

After three days of painful hunting and running in circles. I have finally tamed Savage on Sisters of Elune.

It was 12:30 Server time.

The mobs were a real pain in the ass, i flared him the first time and lost him due to a party invite and huntress attacking me, I feigned death then ran in circles for a bit more.. finally got him.

It is confirmed the tracks are still backwards and he reverses and doubles back as well can tell when he does it when the paw prints are toe to toe.

I got him between Sir-la Village and The Aborteum, between the mountains he seems to pat and turn alot.

The tip i would to hunters lookin for him find his path on the north side and look for feet prints when ya find them follow them back wards if ya find one and there isn't one in front of you throw out a flare. Npc scan will NOT go off if he is near. You actually have to do some hunting.

No one has said yet but i think if the feet prints are up it means he is up.

Just tamed Savage on Bleeding Hollow around 4:15 am server time. The tracks are STILL backwards. He's beautiful!

I found him right between Sri-La Village and The Arboretum, more north going towards Sri-La Village under one of the hills.

Decided to try find this awesome cat today, went flying around and found some tracks out near the Jade Witch in Tiger's Wood.

Decide to fly to the Destination and End points to try my luck but found nothing.

Asked in General, and another Hunter /w me asking what I was talking about, I invited him to group and we tracked her together to locate her, helping each other out with the tracks and direction they were going.

We were to tracks ahead of her at all times popping flares and hoping to catch a glimpse of her but we couldn't find her.

We got to 54,28 and popped flares like crazy trying to get her, sadly I had to go afk for a minute or two and the other Hunter found her at the co-ords above and manged to tame her.

Needless to say I was an unhappy bunny, but he was over the moon with his tame.

He added me to friends and thanked me a ton, and said if he ever spots her tracks again he'll /w me and gives me a heads up to try get her for myself.

So although I didn't get her this time it was a win for Hunters in general. :D

Really liking the challenge of these pets and the process involved, it's very exciting while you do it.

So I wonder what the respawn timer is on this, as that's just over an hour between tames

this is a nice pet but sambas looks beter since sambas is unique,and savage only has different eyes but the same skin like the normal white tigers that can be tamed in pandaria
so in my eyes this pet isn't worth the effort.

Just tamed him after finding his tracks around Dawns Blossom at 19:15pm UK time. I can confirm at the time of writing this post the tracks are still bugged and you have to follow them backwards.
Also as a note, as I was taming him he didn't even attack me and continued to walk away from me.

Named him Baihu which in Chinese refers to White Tiger of the West.

I just tamed Savage on the Realm Aries Peak! His tracks are still backwards but you can tell when your close to taming him! His paw prints appear as he walks so when you see the last paw print wait for one to appear then throw your flare!

Tracked for about an hour, there are prints that are tricky and blend in REALLY well with the grass and mud. If youre having difficulty finding some, put your ground clutter to Low and it should help show them a bit.

I followed the bloody prints (still backwards at time of this post) and found the last one just north of Arboretum. Threw the flare ahead of where it was and he appeared, did a quick tame and he became mine.

Be warned: As soon as you flare him, he's able to be hit by other players. Keep your eyes peeled!

after taming him for myself i offered to look out for his tracks for a guildmate, we found him while in a party and when i flared/hunter's marked savage my guildy couldn't see him and vice versa when he flared and tamed i couldn't see savage either though i could see the hunter's mark arrow floating over nothing and the tamebeast hearts floating above where the mark was.

just thought this info might help relieve some unecessary stress while taming :)

Tamed him at 12:43 and yes the paw prints are STILL backwards. He is completely invisible so not like a rogue he will appear in stealth. tamed him at coordinates 44.38 if that will do any help. Happy hunting!

I tamed him at the coordinates 53.2, 23.8. It's a ledge by the waterfall. I camped him there for 20 minutes, but his rounds take more than that so if you plan on camping him, be prepared to wait up to maybe an hour (assuming someone else doesn't get him before he gets to you). I also put his id(50850) into npc scan, since it won't go off unless you flare him, and it gets your attention. Good luck!

Tamed: 8:24pm, Bronzebeard US.

Days Taken to Get: Three. due to irritation, frustration, head aches, and phasing of the tracks.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION:
Tracks are still backwards as of 10\2\12. Will edit when the tracks are corrected to be forwards.
Savage pats from one part of the zone to the other, and will turn around at the end of her trail to treck back to the other part of the zone. Tracks will also turn and morph together with other tracks.

ESTIMATED SPAWN TIME:
2-8 hours.
Seems to stay up for around one-hour to two-hours at least three times a week.
as edited above: she seems to spawn 30 minutes after kill\tame. this may be a glitch, or it may be real. use it while it's there though!

NOTES:
Tracks can only be found by hunters. You cannot see, or find the pet on any other class. You will not know she is active unless you are a hunter, and you find a track.

Savage currently drops nothing(maybe a tooth or claw), so if you see her flagged, or hunter's marked and a hunter is taming her.
IT IS NO USE TOO KILL HER. SHE DROPS NOTHING IMPORTANT.

Savage does not bear a silver dragon around her icon. She appears as a regular gold elite.

Found him on Icecrown server, 4:20 PM EST, that is 2:20 PM Server Time. I found the tracks at the end of his pathing route near the road leading into Valley of the four Winds, the tracks are to be followed backwards, like everyone says. I followed them 36, 57, to 36, 64 where he turned around, and his tracks went back north, overlapping some of the old tracks, I popped numerous flares to no avail, until I popped one at the ramp at 35, 58 where he was spotted. I Hunters Marked him for safety, then tamed.

this Elite Hunters pet is deathly hard to kill as it will patrol through hostile mobs.
All rare hunter pets have been marked as elite and will not be able to be "taged" unless the hunter dies/feigns death, adding to this all rare hunter pets this expansion require you track them with (at the moment back 't' front) tracks and reveal the spawn with a hunter flare, only hunters can reveal these spawns in other words add to it the fact that it is taged by an unknown sources upon being revealed this makes it a plain statement that these are meant to be tamed as pets.

after asking if any hunters wanted it I set about experimenting after much sacrifice on my tank pets part (kiteing and holding off the mobs that attacked me) and much running after the seemingly oblivious Savage I was able to kill it (I died a little inside that day but as the saying goes "FOR SCIENCE!"). Savage drops no sum of gold, and no Leet items to speak of he will only drop Crystalline Tear of Loyalty that's it hardly worth the amount of work it'd take to kill it, not to mention that it would hardly cover your repair bill if you tried.

in conclusion this is meant to be tamed not killed so be a good sport and leave it to the hunters!

Just tamed this beautiful savage kitty on Defias Brotherhood at 12:51pm relm time :D at the exact co-ordinates 46.4, 36.0 Just above the "D" in Dawn's Blossom.
Took me about 20 mins to find it...following those dark green paw prints and yes you have to follow them backwards. Btw it's just one paw print then about a few steps ahead there is another one, sometimes you have to move a little more further forward to see if anymore has cropped up...but if not then fire your flare right in front of the paw print! When Savage appears, make sure you mark it..other wise it'll go invisible again, but it's easy to find if it goes invisible..its only a few paws away from you ^_^ .
But when i tried to tame her/him, it didn't let me at first, so i flared again, marked it (not getting away from me that easily!) tried to tame, but it never attacked me :o! so it was a VERY easy tame.Plus it's health bar was grey like it had already been targeted..hmm.

I found a set of tracks next to the cave about 25 minutes after a server reset. Started following them, they disappeared, a new set spawned about 200 yards away. Followed those, they despawned, a new set appeared elsewhere. Then they stared disappearing after than I could follow them. I wasted almost an hour flowing tracks that kept disappearing. I didn't get him :(

Tamed on shandris at 19:23 realm time at the coordinates 53,27.

Very simple tame once you find him. Ice trap works, although if your flare goes out and you don't have him marked, he'll disappear again. About gave me a heart attack because i thought he despawned for a brief moment. Followed his tracks for about 15 minutes, and picked up the first one around 53,32, following them backwards around the mount just north of the Arboretum and back up towards the Emperor's Omen.

Just tamed him on the Thrall US PVE East coast realm 11:35 AM 10/06 Server time. Got him a little above the D in Dawns Blossom. Saw the tracks. followed them backwards as per the advice and started tossing flares when i got ahead of him. easy tame.

I just tamed it but I was very surprised to see that he did not attack me at all. Just kept walking. I was even affraid that there was some bug that prevented me getting him but all went well.

Tamed on Hellscream US, 12:30pm server. Went there to check it out on a whim, lo and behold, tracks. :D The tracks were backwards for me, but since I knew this it was easy to follow them... when the tracks ended (about 7-10 yards between each track) fired flare and there he was... showed up red but did not attack, easy tame. Spawned for me just above the "D" in Dawn's Blossom on the map.

I tamed him by flying over the lake with my camera zoomed all the way in so my mount wasn't in the way of my view of the ground, I then aimed my camera at coords 46,36 so I had a perfect view of the area, I about had a panic attack when the first footprint popped up on my screen. He was decently easy to track once I calmed down. I was waiting for about 30 minutes, so I'm guessing I must have JUST missed him when I got myself in place to camp (meaning it takes him at least 30 minutes to path all the way around)

Tamed him 5:17am Server Time on Azjol-Nerub, Coordinates 54, 34. Tracks are Still Backwards.

Definitely lowering the Environmental Detail and Ground Clutter helped me see the Bloody Tracks a lot better. The Tracks are sometimes more spaced out, I've seen some that were very close to each other as well.

The key is to pop your Flare In-front of the Tracks, I was dropping them right on the track then all I saw was his backside and he eventually dissappeared.

I didn't need to use my Freezing Trap at all and just tamed him straight away, he did attack me but not enough to interrupt my casting.

Just tamed at 8:50ish servertime on US Zul'jin. After finding his tracks multiple times i finally picked up his bloody tracks again next to the 46.4, 36.0 spawn point by the pond and tracked him all the way to the north of greenstone mason's quarter by almost the last spawnpoint. Reducing ground clutter really does help. However, I found out the hard way that freezing traps despawn Savage. So don't use it. I did out of bad habit what can I say. If for some reason you do the same just wait there and he'll respawn after about a minute in the same spawn. NOTE: Tracks are still appearing backwards so track backwards. When you get to the last track and you don't see anymore flare about 10 yards ahead in the same direction. If you miss like someone else suggested hit readiness and flare again.

It took me an hour to catch him.. I kept missing him. I'd find the tracks but some are hard to see and the way points are not always exact.. eventually I just started shooting the flare ahead every time I thought I lost the next track and he finally walked into one of them, BAM NPC Scan goes off! Easy tame after you finally find him.

TIPS:

Tracks are facing the opposite direction that he travels.
Shoot Flare ahead of the last track you see (in that same backwards direction you were following).
No one but hunters can see the tracks and you cannot see Savage without the Flare.
Use Hunters Mark or Tame him ASAP before he walks out of the flare and disappears again.
I had to add his NPC ID into NPC Scan because the update didn't have him. 50850 ID
Turn your Ground Clutter in your System Settings down to Low to see Tracks easier.. It really helped me (sadly I didn't use that till the last 5 mins)

Just got him this morning @7:00 AM PST on Moon Guard. Followed the tracks from Dawn's blossom all the way to the edge of the cliff towards Valley of the Four Winds.

Followed the tracks backwards. There were times that I lost the tracks they despawn if you are far away from him the closer you are the longer the tracks last. I just kept walking away from the track I had last seen and eventually I would find another and then another and when I found them in a line without despawning I knew I was close.

My flare caught him just as he was turning to walk back the other direction, easy tame up against the edge of the cliff no attack. Beautiful tiger.

Started at noon by serpents overlook and finally started seeing paw prints appearing in front of me just north of Shrine of the dawn, Easy tame even @ lvl 85.

You only have a few seconds to do something before he dissapears, so don't waste your cd on Hunter's Mark, speed pot, ice trap, etc. Start the taming rightaway, since it has no OP abilities or tricks like the Firelands rares.

Just tamed this beauty at 16:17 on Spinebreaker server. Followed his tracks all down from Dawn's Blossom, till the end of his tracks near Emporer's Omen.
I had already patrolled the path once, without any luck, and just went to track it again backwards with no pause, and there they were. The first "Bloody track" was quite hard to see, and I started tracking them backwards. They were VERY far apart, and even with ground graphics on low, they are still hard to spot on dark surfaces. They do however have a "Npc name" so if you hover your mouse over them the text "Bloody tracks" will appear, so you can't confuse them with anything else.

When I came close enough I saw the tracks spawn directly infront of me and threw a flare, it revealed Savage, and I froze him. He was so close to the edge of the flare, that he did disappear, even with the trap around him - when the flares CD was up I threw another one and there he was, still inside my trap ready to be tamed. (If you get him trapped, the tracks will keep spawning the same spot).

I must say it was a very interesting and thrilling hunt. Some of the mobs you encounter along your way is quite annoying though, like Bamboo Python, Jade Guardian and the various types of other cats, and I think they could be quite a problem if you wanna follow the tracks as level 85. I did it as level 89 and still got into some unwanted combats.

But a really nice and different hunt, good luck out there :)

Found the tracks the towards the beginning, about in the middle of the tracking process. I left my hunter at the end of the tracking trail last night before heading off to bed. So I did the opposite of what every one says. I tracked Savage the why the foot prints went. I found the tracks near Emperor's Omen and the tracks where still backwards. I believe Blizzard wants it this way to fool the tracker, good going Blizzard. So anyways I flared every few feet, since I am a level 90 I had no trouble with the wildlife. I lost the tracks so I went the way that Petopia video show me to do. So I kept going to the end, I had trouble here on which side of the mountain to go on, so I studied the map that was provided in the video. I just started flaring in different directions to brighten up the area. After about 2 to 4 minutes after I started flaring, there "Savage" was headed right for me. I found Savage on Arathor, 9:36 EST (6:36 server), at 37.9, 64.2. Good Luck to all you other hunters who are in search of "Savage." I named my new addition "SAVAGEE"

Tamed today (10/10/12) on Kirin Tor at 1830 hours. Verified that the tracks are still backwards. Tamed @ 56.77, 34.12. No trap used. Hit me twice for about 15k each before tame completed. I'm using the glyph to shorten the cast time of Tame Beast. Attaching picture showing his orientation to paw print just after I tamed him.

The tracks are still backward. For those who may not have understood, you don't have to keep looking for more tracks, if you are at the last one you can see for 40 yards or so, start throwing flares all over the place. (aprox 10-15 yards in front of the last track you see). Some say it takes 30 minutes but he showed up about 10 minutes after I found my last track. It was maybe 30 yards southeast of the Jade Witch's house. I picked up the tracks about half way through the stated route so you don't have to follow the tracks from end to end.

Just tamed this awesome cat. The tracks are hard to see at first since you don't know exactly what your looking for. After you find your first print it is pretty simple. Confirmed the prints are still backwards. Flare about 15 yards of the last track you see. Pretty cat, love the eyes.

I thought that he had the same skin as the other white cats in Mists of Pandaria (such as Ro'shen), more of a gray than white, but this guy is a much more stunning white, trust me. His eyes are also a very lovely deeper blue in comparison, and lack pupils.

As of today, the tracks still face backwards.

It's worth noting that he paths the entire map, and doesn't just stay in one area. Also don't strictly follow the coords on the map above, because he wandered far outside of them when I caught him.

The paw prints get thicker the closer you are to him, so flare a couple yards ahead when you stop seeing any paw prints in front of you. I recommend turning down ground clutter to find his tracks easier, and once you do draw him out of hiding, be sure to hit him with hunter's mark, so you'll see him even when he restealths, which he is quick to do even with flare. Be sure to tag him with an attack as well, since for some reason when I hit tame beast, he kept walking away rather than attacking, and broke the tame!

Happy hunting, and remember that nobody else besides hunters can see the tracks. If someone's following you, they probably intend to grief you once you find him, like they did me. Just fly away and return once they're gone.

Finally got him last night on my hunter!

1. Turning your ground clutter to low REALLY makes a HUGE difference on being able to see his tracks.

2. Tracks are still backwards. I actually wonder if they did that on purpose to make it a little trickier to tame.

3. It is open game once you flare him. Some of these comments seem misleading in suggesting you have nothing to worry about, or some sounded like you'll only see him if YOU flare him and he won't be visible to anyone else. If anyone is confused this is not true. My friend who got him earlier was helping me track him last night. We were in party, and both of us could see him and it didn't matter who's flare it was. Unfortunately, other people can see him too, whether they're in group or not, as after I'd eventually found Savage another hunter was able to tame him right out from under me.

Both of our hunters were 85. The hunt itself was actually pretty thrilling. We tracked him for I don't know how long (both of us this first time had our ground clutter on the highest setting, so it was quite difficult to follow.) A level 90 worgen druid decided to kill us both, and we'd lost his tracks and I had a /sadface.

Some time later we come across his tracks again! This time I'd seen the tip about turning the ground clutter to low (btw I can't stress enough how big of a difference it makes in seeing the tracks). We're following, following... tracking, and there's a level 90 fellow horde guy flying around looking for him too. We finally get to the end of the tracks, I threw out a flare and there he was! Unfortunately, something was bugged and it was saying I had a pet out when I didn't, and by the time that was sorted out (which was only the matter of a second or two), the level 90 flies in and steals my tame. Maybe it's just me, and maybe I'm too nice, but if myself and someone else were tracking a pet and the other person managed to find it before me, I'd admit defeat that time and let them have it and try again later.

After that second huge disappointment, and venting to a friend of mine who was guildies with the hunter that stole Savage from under me, I was riding around in my friend's chopper (who was helping me track her all this time) and we came across new tracks! Followed Savage up the mountain north of the Arboretum and got him! Now I just need to think of a really good name.

I found his tracks at the start of his path all the way over by Emperor's Omen. I knew from the petopia youtube videos to track him backwards from the way the prints were going. I (and 3 other hunters) tracked him his whole path. Even with my ground clutter turned to low I still lost his tracks a couple of times. If you lose his tracks stop and look around, they appeared to be a consistant distance apart. So that should help re-find the tracks. Being a lvl 85 I also aggrod everything around while trying to do this.

I actually thought the lvl 90 worgen that was tracking him had maybe flown ahead and gotten him the one time after I lost his tracks for a good 5 minutes or so (or so it seemed like). I was close to the end of his path so I waited to see if anymore prints appeared when suddenly they did. I knew I had two sets of tracks because the toes were going different directions. I almost passed out. I set a flair a little ahead of a new track and saw him. My hands were shaking so bad I missed my tame button and had to set a couple more flares to refind him. I hunter marked him and hit tame. I was actually worried about if I could get him or not because his name was grayed out like he had been tagged by someone else. I was incredibly happy when the tame completed and I actually had him.

I saw his tracks last night, but I failed to be able to follow them. I found them again this morning, 12 hours after I had spotted the tracks the night before.

I cannot stress this enough- turn ground clutter to low!

You have to be really quick to get him. I had to track him half of his path, and I must have put down 50 flares. He doubles back a few times, and at those places a few tracks overlap. That's the easiest place to find him with flare. Watch the tracks, and put down a flare in front of a new one as soon as it appears. Put it down a few paces ahead. It takes a few seconds for him to become visible, and when he does he will be at the very edge of your flare. Put Hunter's Mark on him, and he won't disappear again. Then just start the tame. He didn't attack me, even as I was taming, so you don't need to freeze him or anything- just tame.

Went looking for him tonight with my level 85 NE Hunter on Ysera. Located him within a half hour and in my excitement abandoned my Sambas instead of dismissing him. Not a good start :(

During the next half hour I was hot on his tail when a worgen hunter noticed me trying to track him and started riding my coattails. I dismissed my pet and fired a flare about 20 yards ahead of the last noticeable bloody print and Savage appeared just for a moment. Just as I was getting ready to cast my tame I was attacked by two Jade Guardians. The worgen hunter came within 5 feet of me, stopped briefly and then continued on leaving me to fight without the help of my pet. Needless to say it didn't end up well. My spawn point was far enough away that I was certain that by the time I reclaimed my body I would have seen the worgen with Savage by his side, but apparently the knucklehead didn't have the skill to track on his own and gave up shortly after my return. Still I counted that as strike two!

Found him again about a half hour later after he walked right over me near the river crossing. He appears to move back and forth briefly in certain areas. It's possible that it occurs when other beasts are in his predefined path. In any case I tracked him all the way from the river to the Greenstone Village before I was able to attempt the tame due to NPC interruptions. I fired a flare revealing Savage about 40 yards in the distance, ran forward a bit to get him within the range of my cast and began the tame. Savage turned and ran at me getting all of one swipe at me before the tame completed and I clocked him as mine at approximately 19:45 Ysera (Eastern) time.

Savage was a definite challenge and the hunt for this beast definitely leaves you with the impression that you are truly hunting a quarry rather than happening upon them purely by chance. He's a beautiful pet, but I'm off to the Twilight Highlands to reclaim my lost Sambas.

Tamed on Feathermoon @ around 3:30am server. The hints here are a real life-saver. as of this morning 10/14 tracks are still backwards. Savage is Stealthed and you need to use a flare to find him. I found that I had to use multiple flares, as he keeps walking, he doesn't stop and wait for you to catch up.

Also a side note, NPC scan will not go off till he is visible. (he needs to be added in manually by using his ID # 50850)

I have not had any competition yet on Lothar-US for any of the "hunter only" pets. I've certainly seen others with some of the rares - Quilen seem to be pretty popular (I've got two colors myself.) Still, I am not following tracks and coming across other hunters, and just now (approximately 5PM EST) I got Savage, and again, there was no one anywhere near, hunter or otherwise. It took me about 15 minutes of track following until I was certain I was going in the right direction, then I got a good bit ahead and flared a few times till Savage strolled in. I put Hunter's mark on her, and then tamed. Gorgeous!

Hey all, Rez is back.

So, just caught this guy on Hyjal literally five minutes ago. Just a few updates as of 4AM on 10/15/12:

-Prints are still backwards
-Prints despawn within five minutes (stayed in the spot after taming while multitasking; had done a shout-out of reset on the spawn timer for this beauty at a quarter after in general, and at 19, last prints were gone)
-Seems to walk just as fast/slow as any NPC
-Needs to be added manually to NPCscan to go off, (id number 1742053) and only after he is un-stealthed (flare). Note: if no one is around, wait a few moments for the next print to show up and flare just slightly in front, put on Hunter's Mark and tame. MAKE SURE your pet is away-don't be dumb like I was with Humar and just let your active pet hang out with you.
-I found a relatively good spot where there's no hostile NPCs and the ground is relatively light green so you can see the tracks incredibly well. At about 54, 37 near the path, if you look north, you can see the kitty coming or going pretty easily.

Overall, not a hard tame. I like the print thing that Blizz came up with this expansion to help with not killing the rares by random people and them separating them from the rest of the rares unlike they did in WotLK.

Caught him today on Bonechewer server at about 5pm abound the beginning of his path 37 52. tracks are backwards still. Tip: once you find him in flare tag with a shot and proceed to tame other wise he stealths again and you need to flare again. NPC scan does not work on him just FYI. his prints are a lil hard to find and keep up with but the map is accurate so happy hunting dont get discouraged hes a easy tame and worth the hunt =}

Just tamed him on Lightbringer (US) at 10:59 am Server time. Looked around for about an hour then spent about 30 mins following his tracks until I saw a track spawn shot a flare and boom there he was. Love my new tiger MauiWowie! :)

Why is it that so many comments with useful info are being voted down? I notice this on any page for hunter pets. Just because you're jealous that someone else finally managed to tame what you've yet to find, that doesn't mean you need to go to every damn pet page and downvote everyone.

Just tamed him at 3:04pm(ish) on Khaz'goroth at 55,34. I did one full lap of his route following the spawn points above and had started to double back when they started to appear right in front of me. Then all I had to do was get ahead of him with a Flare and there he was, I nearly panicked and hit wrong buttons but hit Tame Beast and he was mine, in my panic I didn't even use my Hunter's Mark lol. No Traps, I do have the Tame Beast Glyph active so not sure really how much difference that would make to it. I HIGHLY recommend that anyone hunting these MoP rare pets turn their Ground Clutter down to Low setting, makes a huge difference in trying to see the tracks (especially with ones like Patrannache who I tamed a few hours ago, tiny little tracks for her!). Oh, and can confirm that as of today, tracks are STILL backwards.

An easy method to make sure you stay on track is to use the TomTom addon with waypoints added. I've tracked him through all of his pat and tried to mark all of the locations of his tracks. A few of these waypoints are extra such as when he turns (he often turns right after dropping a track which can be misleading). To use these just copy and paste these into wow after installing TomTom and follow the path.

As for the rest of my post, I recommend you read it, especially any non-Hunters.

My boyfriend tamed him. I am a mage. So you might wonder why I'm posting anything more than coords and a time. Well, I have some news for you all. Two things happened while I was jogging around uselessly after my boyfriend that may come in handy:

1) He found the tracks and was walking against them (as they're still backwards). We would get to a point where we couldn't find more tracks and were next to the last one we saw, and I would lag briefly. I never lag, certainly not while standing still, but I ignored it and went about my business. Finally we decided eff it and went to the southern end of his patrol path and waited. I began to lag again, and not a second later my bf said he saw a track a few yards away from me. Despite frenzied flare dropping Savage still eluded us, so we flew up to the bridge spot where we knew he'd cross and we waited. Being a smart lady, I had a hunch that I'd be lagging again shortly. I wasn't disappointed.

Sure enough, while standing there doing nothing but admiring the flora, I began to lag. I immediately told my bf to drop flare right in front of me and he did so... and then turned around for some reason, probably to see if a track popped up or something. Naturally, it was right then that Savage and his giant arse came into view exactly in the center of the flare (strolling leisurely, I might add). I saw him for about 3 seconds and started yelling like a spaz for my bf to turn around and mark. So he whips around and marks him, Savage phased out again (for me), and a few seconds later he phased back into view, all tamed and shrinky dinked.

2) At one point, during one of the spots of lag, I heard the rogue vanish noise. No, there were no mobs near me capable of stealthing, so unless it was an actual player it was probably Savage. I guess I got lucky and the phasing was wonky for a second or something. I'm not certain of course, but it seems too well timed to be a coincidence.

However, I *am* certain that the lag relates to Savage and the phasing that prevents non-Hunters from seeing him. It happened too many times and, in the end, is the reason we were able to catch him. I guess the phasing is a bit glitchy, who knows. Anyhow, I'm not saying this scenario will assuredly happen for every non-Hunter, but if you want to go along with your Hunter friend and try to help, you may not be useless after all :)

Tamed him at 17:47 on Ghostlands EU at co-ords 44, 39, just below the lake by Dawn's Blossom. He completely ignored my trap when I popped it down so make sure you're nearby when you start taming. He didn't try to attack me at all so it was a very easy tame once I'd found him.

As for the tracks, still need to follow them backwards and they kept disappearing on me. Don't give up!

Just tamed him 8:15 am ST on US BurningBlade . You still have to follow his tracks backwards you do not need traps since he does not fight the tame but make sure you are close as he continues to walk during it. flares help then hunter mark him and you're golden.

Hate to post another useless "I tamed her xx" but I tamed her around 3pm on Runetotem near the Jade Witch Lair. A track had JUST spawned and I immediately dropped a flare and there she was. Savage was almost out of the flare by the time I got over my shock and started taming her. She aggro'd me as soon as I started the tame, luckily, and ran back into the flare. She is a gorgeous cat. No other cat compares. I love her blue, blue eyes. She will stay with me forever. <3 Savage. Now to hunt the other rares. None are quite so lovely as she is though.

Confirmed tame 48, 29 - Spirestone 1:53pm PST

The tracks are still backwards, but here is how I tracked him. The Bloody Tracks are always about several feet away from each other, if they have stopped you are close. Keep your eyes on the direction of the last print and watch. When the next one appears flare on that position a little ahead of it in the direction it's facing (backwards).

I was a bit confused when I couldn't find him even if the tracks stopped. But I started seeing tracks appear in real time which led me to believe he right there making them and poof, flared him out.

Took the advice and went to the little lake with the tiger cubs.. found the tracks there followed them for awhile.. then lost them.. got annyoed with myself.. went afk for a bit. then decided i shouldent give up that easily :P So i went back to the lake. found the tracks again. followed them for maybe 5 mins or so. Then caught this beauty at 54.36! =D

Just so other hunters players know Savage's tracks can only be seen by hunters.

As of 10/20/12 the tracks are still backwards, so keep that in mind when hunting him down.

Also he is invisible, so you could be right on top of him and not even know he is there. Watch the tracks! He moves along at a decent pace for an invisible cat so don't be afraid to throw out flares frivolously.

I tracked him down with the help of a druid. I would follow the tracks and determine the direction Savage was headed and my druid friend would hover over the last track I saw so that I wouldn't lose my place. When I initially found him, I began taming but Savage continued walking (unlike most pets that aggro onto you). I had to flare him several times and actually shoot him to get his attention, so when you see him fire a shot at him, or as an earlier hunter suggested mark him with a hunter's mark to keep him from disappearing on you.

My advice, pay attention to the tracks. You really have to be looking for the trail (or lack there of) to know if you're close. Some of the tracks are indeed hard to spot, they are not in a straight line, and are fairly spaced out. In my opinion when in doubt toss a flare of two until you find another track. NPC scan (at least the current version) will not go off for him at all, invisible or otherwise (at least mine didn't before i found him and after he became visible and I did not have him cached) so do not rely on the add on as your main strategy to catching him or tracking him down because it will not work.

Tamed him today, managed to catch him where he turned around at the waterfall. Pawprints are still going backwards, so go in the opposite direction. Also, what you're looking for is "Bloody Tracks". Good luck!

Hey fellow hunters! After off and on again 5 day of tracking Savage. I finally tamed him. Note the tracks are still backwards when you track him. It was around Dawns Blossom area I was just walking around like I usually do when looking for his tracks. I saw some and I flared them and nothing. So I kept looking for more I found them flared again and BOOM there he was so I marked him with the hunters mark, then hit my tame and he walked away and out of the tame. SO I followed him hit tame again and Finally I got him. I named him "Jim" I have a close friend that I love dearly named Jim. So I thought that would be a great name for a rare and great Tiger It was about 10:21p.m. Server time. I am on Terenas Realm.

Talk about one happy hunter. OH YEAH that would be me.

Caught this guy at about 8:20am on Arygos. His tag was gray and I didn't think I would be able to get him since he wasn't responding to a concussive shot or other attacks to draw his attention, but I threw a tame out there anyway and there I had him :) good start to the morning.

And yes, the tracks are still backwards. I was able to get to the head of the trail mostly by following the path above when i lost the old tracks. Then he doubled back and i started seeing tracks appear rather than disappear. Tossed out Flare at its max range ahead of the latest track and he appeared. I made sure to Hunter's Mark him so I wouldn't lose sight of him.

Just tamed him today, after reading other peoples post I also agree that it is a MUST to lower you ground setting after doing so it took me about 10 minutes to find the prints on the ground then maybe another 3 minutes to find this sneaky guy.

He was tamed today on Cenarion Circle at 9:35 am server time at coordinates 41.3 37.4 in the jade forest

Super easy tame flared him, marked him, tamed him :) Happy hunting all Good luck.

P.S. as of today the print are still backwards so make sure if they are facing one way to go the other way.

Just tamed this little beasty at (55,28)

Had come across his tracks roughly halfway along his path (the little lake just northwest of Dawn's Blossom) and went the direction they were facing before they disappeared. Ended up backtracking upon myself until eventually I picked up the tracks again and started following them. Went a further 10 or so yards from the last one I saw in the new area and got attacked by an orange kitty, whilst fighting that I figured I may as well pop flare and 'see', and Savage was right there (then pounced on me!). Killed random kitty and tamed Savage.

My advice... go in the opposite direction to which the prints are facing!

was changing locales fishing for jade lung fish when i noticed the first track
lost track of him about three times and had to trace his path out to find more tracks. some of the little buggers faded while i was looking right at them the sneaky snarky things. finally tracked him down at about 8:57 on the Duskwood server at about 48, 29. happy hunting

Please Note! This is NOT your standard white tiger, I went after him as an afterthought for not finding Glimmer, and I'm glad I did! He is super detailed and has a different, almost thunderbolt pattern in his fur. Happy hunting!

Didn't read all the posts so please pardon if a repeat. Appears to share a skin with the Windward Saber on Windward Isle and the Dread Matriarch in Dread Wastes. My main hunter prefers to hunt the rares for taming but if you want the model without the thrill of the hunt then perhaps one of these is an option for you.

Found Savage three times in the span of three hours. First hour I was fishing while a hunter behind me was flaring near the river. Figured he was looking for Savage so I stayed to observe. He finally showed up & the hunter tamed him. I started talking to the hunter asking him questions about Savage, since I really didn't know much about him. He told me the spawn time was 2 hours so to flare the river in two hours. He said good luck and left. As I waited I got my fishing up. and jumping the gun a bit I started flaring after 50 minutes. At the hour mark I found him! But I'm a noob and I wasnt good at flaring, so I ended up losing him :( But its okay because I went back to the river and started flaring again hoping to get him when he came back. Luck was on my side because an hour later there he was again walking right towards me. Easy tame. Absolutely love this cat! I recommend flaring around the river, it seems easier too me.

His tracks are still backwards, so go the opposite way they're facing, and the best way to see them is to turn ground clutter down low, as others have stated. Good luck, he's gorgeous :)

I just want to say that I think this is one of the best ideas Blizzard has ever come up with. Pets that we actually have to TRACK (we're hunters, after all), that wandering nut cases can't kill out from under us, that are elite but not so rare that we have to camp them for weeks on end, that are beautiful and fun - in short, a gift just for us hunters, if we're willing to do a tiny bit of work.

I had so much fun tracking Savage and then catching him with the flare, and he's so beautiful, it just made my day. It's also nice to have some goals besides killing for gear and loot.

So - just want to iterate a few things:

If you lose his tracks, KEEP LOOKING! He could still be up. I lost his trail a couple of times but kept looking and in a few minutes found the tracks again a middling distance away ("middling", for you city folk, means "not too far and not too near", just in the middle of those two.) As far as I could tell, he pads all over the place. You can easily see the tracks form and know just where to aim your flare once you get to the end of the trail.

Hitting him with hunters mark the second you see him is a really good idea; he doesn't seem to be moving that fast but it's amazing how quickly he can disappear on you. Tagging him - maybe not a good idea if you've not dismissed your pet. You can't tame him while he's in combat with your pet and, even if your pet is on passive, it's best to not get into a battle.

As of 4 P.M. Eastern Standard Time today, the tracks are still backwards.

For some reason, I had trouble dismissing my current pet; had to try several times before he went. Might be a good idea to use a trash pet that you can abandon in case this was a glitch.

Savage does not hit hard enough to worry about. It's the other mobs that might be troublesome; for 85s they can be very aggressive and there seems to be hundreds all congregated around the place you want to be. :-\ Knowing the lay of the land is a big help, there might be places you can get away instead of having to fight everything. Distract to your pet (another reason to have a trash pet) and run, preferably not into another mob. This is where having a partner can help the most and if they're higher level, even better. Sic the mobs on your friend and run. :-D

Feign Death is your FRIEND! :-D So is camouflage but if you have your pet out, he can bump into mobs that you bypass easily (which I have unfortunately discovered on numerous occasions.) Be careful.

Enjoy, enjoy, enjoy! This is a wonderful, beautiful pet, especially if you're fond of the cats (which I am.) The tracking sounds much harder than it is and with the short spawn time you don't have to camp or race other hunters to get him. And best of all, no non-hunter is going to kill him before you find him! :-)

Just tamed her near the Arboretum side with the shrine's. Tracked the backward's tracks for maybe 20 minutes, waited til I got to the last one and shot up my flare, she showed up right away. Thanks everyone for all the helpful information on finding this beautiful creature. It 0253 st on Rexxar that I tamed him. I followed his paths up and down for about 2 hours just trying to track him. Camouflage is awesome for when you are around the jade witch's lair due to the mass volume of jade guardians.

I tamed him at the coordinates 54, 23 on the ledge by the waterfall near Sri-La Village. and his tracks are still backwards, so if you find them going forward, walk the other way.

Just tamed him at 5:16 pm server time (Winterhoof, US) at 38, 45.

It took me about a solid hour to find his tracks, as they were not showing up even though I flew the path about 3-4 times back and forth. Once I found them, it took me about 30-40 minutes to actually find and tame him. Tracks are still backwards, which makes it somewhat confusing to track him and I lost his tracks once since they tend to blend in with the ground. Jade guardians also seemed adverse to me taming him as they always picked to attack me as I was throwing a flare down. >.>

He's definitely the best looking pet I have so far. Thanks to all the guides and helpful comments, I would've been completely lost without them!

Tamed Savage about an hour ago on Antonidas server, 04:30 am, EST.

Like everyone says, you follow his bloody prints; backwards. I found some fresh looking ones in the area where the Forest Huntress's and porcupines are. Its the most northeast area of the map, below the Sri-La Village. When the tracks stopped, I dismissed my pet and set off a flair and Savage was right in front of me. Being a lvl 88 and him a lvl 85, I guess that's why he didn't jump me. You have to mark him fast. NPC Scanner won't pick him up while he's stealthed, which seems to be all the time. Once he's hunter marked, do your tame. He's a real beauty. :)

I can confirm that the tracks are pointing the wrong way. They still point to the opposite way.
Just to be sure. Check 2 marks and see which one will dissappear first.

just tamed at around 1:30p server time, Frostwolf.

tracks still backwards as of today.. went from the southwest to the northeast, when i got to the upper northeast corner saw that the tracks had doubled back on themselves. since you cant tell just by two sets of tracks being on the ground what happened (if savage is far out from the "corner" area is it currently heading east, or west) i decided to head back and just keep looking. i found a track near where it crosses that road and flared, and there it was, and there it went, disappeared almost immediately.

i flared a few more times and couldnt find it, so i mounted up and just went in the same direction i was checking at that point, got to a "last" track and found it in another flare, clicking on it to autoshot to tag it right away. it disappears VERY fast after it shows up in flare.

something you may find useful, i used the camo glyph so that i could still move while stealthed. switch to cheetah aspect and youll be able to move at faster than 50%. i decided to be lazy and do it like this so i wouldnt fight mobs much.. this was because i was running around with no pet. you will NOT have time to abandon your pet once you find savage.

you could possibly get around this by macro'ing a bunch of stuff together including hunter mark first to tag, pet abandon, and so on in the proper order. good luck =]

Tamed him at 55 , 29 on Kael'Thas this morning.

He was frustrating to follow around and his tracks are indeed very easy to lose.

I just have to say that the challenge of tracking and taming was refreshing, true to the Hunter's name and a much better way to spend time than camping spawn points for days on end.

Just tamed this beauty on Uldaman at 12:50AM Server Time. Co-ordinates 46,37 in Forest Heart. What a gorgeous creature. Tracks were a little hard to follow and run backwards to direction of travel (which has been noted already of course). Ended up backtacking quite a bit and all told, I followed the trail for about 20 min. So happy :)

Tamed at 1:30am Server Time on Kil'Jaeden at approx. 56.4, 30.4

Facts:

Track prints are still facing the opposite direction of travel.
He leaves behind at least 6 track marks.
Not visible or stealthed. Must be "flared" to be seen (Yay).
Prowls at just about walking speed.
May double-back at times, watch for double prints.
You can tame nice and close, he won't "aggro" and start attacking

Strategy:

Use a way point add-on (I used TomTom with the above posted way points typed into a macro) as reference points.
Don't go around on a mount looking for marks. They are not easy to see, even with all the "optimal" settings. Camo, and cheetah aspect.
If you see one of the "bloody tracks" disappear, head the opposite direction.
Found a track? Slow down and look around for the next one; it will be visible, even up to four tracks at some points.
Toss the flare, and MARK as soon as he's found.
TAME!

Tame at 02:25 Misha

Followed video and matched screen shot to location where he crossed stream at (TomTom) grid 38.15 50.70. Actually spotted him 3 other times before taming him and aggro'd Jade Cats and lost him each time. I found an area where he crossed a road 47.00 30.07 next to Greenstone Quarry and between two stone columns at 54.76 38.34 at the Shrine of the Dawn that are void of critters to aggro. ~~The tracks are indeed still backward, as of 11/17/12. One thing to note about them;~~ The tracks are level even when the ground is not, so they may be partially below the surface depending on which way the terrain tilts. They're dark red, and for those of us with colorblindness, a little difficult to see in spots, but once you know what they look like you can pretty well keep track of them.

The tracks appear about 20 yards apart (estimate; I didn't measure directly) and meander a bit. Not sure how quickly they appear and disappear; someone said there are six tracks total, but for the speed he was moving (slow walk) and how far back I was when I found the first one that may be a little short. Alcion's list of waypoints was helpful, but needed to be broken up into sets of six to fit into a macro.

I either missed him with the trap, or he ghosted right past it. It didn't go off or disappear, it was just sitting there. She doesn't aggro when you start taming, so it doesn't matter much; get right up on top or a little in front of her so she doesn't walk out of range on you as she did me the first try.

As Rouzen said, NPCScan and Silverdragon do NOT alarm on him, visible or not.

If you want to see something weird, click on 'view in 3d' at the top, let it load, then choose 'emotework'. Savage turns into an eldritch abomination if you ask her to work... And turns inside out with run and walk...

Just found him on Aszune @ 20:10.

After travel around for about 30 minutes following tracks (losing the trail several times too) I found him directly south of Sri-La Village.
Tip: Don't give up hope. Just keep following the tracks and referring to the map above. You'll find him eventually.

I did just as the previous posts had mentioned. I decided to look for Savage after reading posts regarding how to find him/her. Found my first bloody track and followed them backwards from there. Started just north of the Arboretum and went west from there. Lost the trail a few times but I think it's because I actually got ahead of him at one point. Back-tracked a few print and picked up where I left off.

Once I felt I was just ahead of the last paw print I threw up a flare and sure enough, Savage appeared a few seconds later at the above position.

I have never felt more like a hunter than I did looking for this cat. Great tame and thanks everyone who posted before me for all the helpful hints.

Just tamed at 7pm server time on Sentinels (11/23/12 @ 7pm). Again, like everyone else says, his paw prints are backwards! You have to go backwards, in the opposite direction the paws face. People on my server were trying to tell me it was corrected, I can confirm it is NOT fixed yet.

Was a very fun trip trying to pin down where he was, took over two hours of tracking, passing and back tracking to finally get him. :) Very beautiful pet.

I just got him at 54,35. I was tracking him for about an hour (backwards of course), when I noticed that a track literally appeared in front of me...so I flared and there he was. You have to shoot him instantly to keep him visible, but he ignores your attacks and keeps walking. Just tap tame and win :)

Hey guys! Just tamed this gorgeous creature at 10:45 Server Time on Moon Guard - US on the Horde side (as a level 85). Super easy tame! Coordinates were 54.6, 33 for anyone using a TomTom addon, or their map coords. As of 5.1 the tracks ARE going the right way, so don't try following them backwards! If they're going away from you, then Savage is heading away from you, too. Also, the tracks get thicker and darker the closer you get to her.

It took a few long, annoying trips around the spawn path suggested on the map at the top (so many aggressive mobs!), and a bit of irritating phasing issues to finally tame her. Thankfully, no other players were around to disrupt the tame, but I have heard a few friends complain that while they were taming, a few people thought it would be cute to try and disrupt their tames.

Once unstealthed, Savage can be targeted by anyone, so make sure you Hunter's Mark and tag her for your own! Once that's done, lay a flare and a trap, and Tame Beast away! Enjoy your new combat companion!

i just tamed savage on stormrage at 3:45pm server time and i got him at 57.4 37.4, and also the glitch on his tracks is gone now, so track him in the direction the tracks are going when u come to tracks that seem to have ended send out a flair in front of the last track about 7-10yds, i put him in a freeze trap and tamed him, it was very easy tame once i found him! good luck guys and if there is anybody on stormrage who would like some help tracking him just hit me up on my toon ilovevienna

Ok i tamed this beauty this afternoon. I did want to mention that the tracks are forwards, not backwards as earlier posts indicate. Maybe it's because the 5.1 patch, but i chased this cat from the water fall to his lowest spawn point, then halfway back. I got him around the lake in the center of his patrol, ( i jumped ahead of his tracks and kept popping flares til he walked into my waiting tame.) He didn't even stop to try to stop me, kept walking as if nothing was gonna bother him. Anyways hope this helps.... =)

I am not sure if people have pointed this out yet. I just tamed this pet a few minutes ago. Apparently Blizz has fixed the blood track bug. It is not backward anymore. Also the newest blood track indicates the most recent spot it passed. As for patch 5.1 Landfall. Hope it helps. And good luck.

Spotted him 7:00a server time and finally caught him at 7:29a, Argent Dawn server, right next to the Shrine of the Dawn.
I wasn't able to use Hunter's Mark on him, and if he walked out of the flare's range before I was done channeling, it canceled the channel. I was able to use a freezing trap on him though, took me a few tries before I was able to flare/trap him.
I also noticed that he doesn't despawn if he reaches his spawn point, he just starts his patrol again.

I can confirm as of 12/4/2012 - the tracks are facing the correct direction. Meaning you need to follow the tracks in the direction the "toes" are pointing.

Savage is a pain to tame because:
1) He takes random turns on his path.
2) The NPCs will keep attacking you while you track or start a tame.
3) The time for which savage stays within the flare is very short. Hunter's mark did not work on him, freezing trap did not work. Even hitting him with arcane shot had no effect, he did not aggro. He just keeps walking on his path.
4) Have some patience for this tame, its annoying.

Suggestion:
When you track him, try to familiarize yourself with his pathway, not just through the map, but through actual markers on the ground. If necessary kill a npc near a track, and dont loot it, for it to act as a way point. This way if you lose track, you have the corpse to point the last known location of the track. Turning down ground clutter to low helps.

Also keep in mind, on the map shown in wowhead for Savage's patrol path, where you see the bridges and roads, Savage will not be on those . If he needs to cross a river, he would evidently rather wade through the water than take the bridge right next to it. I wasted a lot of time flaring near or on the bridge or roads. Savage stays on the grassy ground always.

Also, after dropping the flare : well ahead of where savage will appear. Physically run to the spot - ahead of the flare. Then, when Savage comes in to the flare, start taming. To better understand, if you imagine a circle of radius "1" at (x,y) = (0,0), the flare is at the center of the circle (0,0) and Savage is coming from (0,-1) then you need to position yourself at the other end (0,1), so for the distance from (0,-1) to (0,1) = 2 is the walk time you will get, which is needed for the tame.

I was excited and several times started the tame from (0,-2) or (0,-1) and Savage promptly walked out of range and out of the flare. Very very annoying. Since once he walks out of the flare, good luck getting him back in one (given points 1,2,3,4 above).

The time to find the tracks was not so much, I remember camping for days for the WOTLK spirit beasts. But the actual process to tame, given his propensity to just ignore you and walk away, makes this tame a challenge.

His character is also nothing spectacular. He looks like the orange colored tigers which roam about Jade forest. Same look, and honestly the white color is not even that appealing. Winterspring tigers look cooler with their lilac stripes.

I actually had to abandon Kirix to be able to free a slot to tame Savage.

I also abandoned Skitterflame for Hexapos.

While Kirix and Skitterflame were challenges, but I still have Deth'tilac - which is the same model but different color.

Seems like a shame though. Blizzard doesn't care much about hunters.

Are his tracks still backwards? I'm seeing tracks but so far cannot find him. Nevermind I saw someone's comment. I got him up top near the Sri-La Village. One way which worked was wait till he gets up top or bottom, since he does not despawn, wait till you know he is close drop both flares or a flare and a ice trap to freeze him.
I was able to get ahead of him and drop a flare and a trap a few steps away right at the end of his patrol (he just turns around buying you more time). He walked up to me, turned around and stepped on my trap. Straight tame. I think the trap also has to be in the flare in order to work.

I just found out about Savage tonight around 6:00 AM. Decided to go check the route. Found the tracks, but spent probably two hours trying to follow them. Finally read and found to turn down clutter density, and that helped, but it was still a pain.

Found him at one point, decided to throw down an ice trap (I assumed he would attack). I did not realize once he gets out of the flare, he was gone again. That was quite a surprise. Found him briefly, lost him again. Found him again maybe 10 minutes later going through a narrow pass (thank God) by popping flares one after another and hoping he hadn't come through there yet. Started taming, but he got out of the flare before the tame was finished and I lost him again. Attempted once or twice more with the same result. Went a few feet up the gully (which was about to end and making it that much harder to find him) and popped another flare. The 20 second cooldown is a HUGE pain. BOOM, there he was. I did not hesitate this time and started the tame immediately. Barely completed it before he exited the flare area.

Whew. This is what happens when you don't research ahead of time.

Kept his name "Savage", but considered naming him simply "PITA."

Unlike some other commenters here, I didn't have trouble with Hunter's Mark not working. Popped my Flares where I thought he was about to be, he appeared, I Marked him and tamed without incident. So don't go into this thinking "oh I won't bother marking, I'll just be frantic" -- might as well try HM first!

Yea yo i found him in the jade forest you just gotta follow these points on the map they show here as best as you can the tracks are green as they said or dark green whatever When You mouse over it you will see it says bloody tracks that is the indication that he is there you should follow them as best you can i got lost a lot since the tracks are so small but follow them towards the direction that they face zoom out a lil too see if theres any surronding you, and if they arent, and when it seems ur at the last one USE A FLARE exactly the amount apart each track is from each other so like 10 feet also when your at your last track the next one will be developing ahead of you so you want to put that flare down quickly. 10 feet from that as i said.one more thing MAKE SURE YOU HUNTERS MARK THAT DUDE once you see him so prepare your hunters mark on the main keys also DONT ride your mount at all while following these points on the map they have here and when you finally find a track, if you find it because its alot easier to go camoflauge and aspect of cheetah watchout with enemies surronding you and follow the tracks that way. Thats all i did.

Found an interesting bug/glitch this morning.

Completed a tame twice on this cat but it didn't become my pet. First time I just started taming as soon as he entered my flare. Looked like I had plenty of time but I just assumed "guess not" when he wasn't at my side. Second time, I put down a flare and a freezing trap. He walked in, got trapped, and again I channeled tame. Nothing.

Now I can't find him. I'll try again tomorrow.

2013.01.04 Tracks are heading right direction.
When i found Savage it was tagged to some1 else.
During the tame he was not attacked me and before tame finish he was become invisible so taming interrupted couple times.
So i followed him almost 10 minutes and shot him untill his half HP.
and then finally i tamed him.

Edit:
After savage i went to tame other rares. then i realized my mistake.
When you found rare it will be disappear in few second even you attack him he will also disappear.
You have to put Hunter's Mark on him to stop disappearing! Then enjoy ur new pet :)

Started with the lake, tracked him to just a little south of emperors omen, and used flaire straight ahed of where the tracks stopped. Marked him with hunters mark and could tame him. I just tamed this one on Mug´thol above The Arboretum (coords 55 38). Followed the footsteps a long time. Made some flares - see him and nearly disapeared immediately when I started taming. His tracks are really easy to lose. When I started the finally tame, I put a Hunter Mark on him - he did not disappear - start taming and now this beauty is mine :) He did not attack me while I was taming. Just walked his way ahead.

To tame this for me first rare pet took me about 1 1/2 hour. I am not sure willing to tame the other 8 ;)

Even after my tragic incident of an Alliance hunter slaughtering me in the middle of taming this beauty, I finally tamed Savage. His name is Calypso, and he is really worth the time. He's beautiful, and stands out from every other cat in WoW. Next to my Sambas (Leo), I feel like the best hunter in the world.

A tip for those who are trying to tame Savage. I've found his tracks on the southern side of his trail around 36.8, 59.8, near the end of the bamboo, and I followed them. Within only a few tracks, I had lost sight of the next one and could not find the next track to save my life. I flared up in multiple places, and when I went back to retrace my steps, the previous tracks were already gone. Feeling hopeless, I circled his path full length multiple times and could not find his tracks again until suddenly, I found them up by 57.2, 35.0.

It was almost as if Savage had teleported, because there was no way he could have traveled the entirety of his trail in that short of a trip. I followed his trail again, but once again, lost track of it around 54.2, 32.6. His tracks had once again disappeared. I did what I did the previous time, and simply pulled up this WoWhead map of him and followed where it said he spawns as exact as I could. Flying across the map two more times, I had ONCE again found his track marks near the place I original found them. I chased them, and lost them AGAIN. But to my luck, there were two track marks right next to each other facing different directions, pointing that Savage had just turned around.

I followed his trail for a few more tracks, and flared up. I saw the beauty, but he quickly disappeared (So hint for all hunters: Mark him UP the moment you see him and it will be easier to follow him). I clicked tame after a few more flares and finally snatched him up, although he did not attempt to attack me. He walked away from me the whole time the tame beast was happening, so if he continues to walk away from you, just remember to start off close and tame him so he won't be out of distance.

In the end, taming Savage was a very tedious task that took me about 3 and a half hours, but it was definitely worth it. Things to keep in mind:

1) Savage seems to teleport across the map for unknown reasons, but don't give up yet. Fly across his trail and try to find tracks in random spots again as I did.

2) He could only be seen by flare, and even then, only be seen for a moment or two. Be ready to mark him the second you spot him or he will disappear again.

3) The tracks are pretty easy to follow if you know how to look for them. Hover your mouse over a brown spot in the ground, and if it says "Bloody Tracks", then you are on the right path. If you don't see any more tracks, then quickly pull up a flare and try to spot him. He shouldn't be far... Unless he teleported. Sigh.

4) While taming (At least this happened to me) he never attacked me. He simply continued to stalk away from me as if nothing was happening, but when the tame was over, he was mine and became friendly. Don't freak out if Savage doesn't try to butcher you while you're taming him.

5) And lastly, be patient. It took me hours, but it was completely worth it. He was quite a challenge and the trickiest pet I've ever had to tame, even trickier than Humar and Sambas because he is stealthed. But keep your hopes up, because on the bright side, only HUNTERS can see his tracks.

Just tamed him on Feathermoon at 3:45am server time. This was a tough one! I seriously underestimated just how hard tracking him would be. I spent around an hour following him back and forth across his patrol route, picking up the trail and losing it over and over again. I'd put down a flare and start taming, and I cant count how many times he slipped past the flare radius with a second or two to go on the tame channel.

But finally, I got it. JUST as he was about to slip away again, as I closed my eyes in disappointment, I heard the level-up sound and saw a beautiful cat running faithfully back to me.

Phew! That was quite the challenge!

Hello Everyone, I would recommend you start looking for him down in the south part and work your way up like the map above shows rather then look at random spots, once you find the tracks just follow them once you find him make sure to tag him and put your hunter mark on him so he does not disappear while you are trying to tame him as of 5.1 the tracks point in the right direction. I just tamed this guy on the Whisperwind server at about 11am. I started at the farthest NE portion of the path shown above. I ran around on the path, ground clutter at Low, until I ran into the Bloody Tracks. He does not attack once you uncover him and he walked right over my freezing traps. I grabbed the Glyph of Tame Beast, put a hunter's mark on him, got really close to him, popped rapid fire and tamed him before he walked out of range.

This was the most fun I've had taming a pet since Broken Tooth. Cudos to Blizzard for this bit of fun :D

This beuty count as a rare pet but 2-3 hours of spawn time hardly count as a rare . Anyway i think this is ''the pet '' for hunters. Why? because it is challenging. İt can only seen by hunter's flare and it is untrackable, unmarkable . Only way to track him is the bloody paws on the path he walks and even you use flare and make him visible its still tricky to tame it :) I mean what else ? If this is not the true way to tame a pet what is then. Opening hunter's beast track and waiting and flying around on a map like 6 hours or more or using bunch of addons to alert you ? PvPing while u track on something is good infact it is another way to challange but with crossrealm thing its not good to get a whisper like this '' the second you try to tame the beast i will kill it because it is mine '' from a greedy allie and he was from another server. Anyway i strongly believe all other rare pets should be challenging like this. Make the spawn time even longer then 2-3 hours make it 7 but do something that everyone can not.

This is a fair tame. You ACTUALLY have to hunt him down. Having said that, he looks alot like the cats up north in kunlai.

IMO this pet makes you a better hunter than waiting for a spwn with NPCscan. just saying.

Tamed him this morning at 810am mtn time on Velen server. When he walked into my flare @ 37,51 by the river crossing I put a hunters mark on him and alsoshot him with a serpent sting shot, he DID NOT initiate combat or respond to the shot but just kept walking right by me. When I initiated the tame he just kept walking didnt respond at all but the tame was successful.

Turn your ground clutter down to minimum to help you see the tracks better. It makes a world of difference I assure you!

I found out about this pet and tamed him all in a span of 30 minutes. Once I found his tracks and they started to be placed right in front of me all I did was flare and mark him, tamed and that was it. He's really pretty!

After 2 hours following its paw prints, I wasn't able to see it with flare. Next day, I saw a pax, throw a flase and tamed it. I tamed it on its last paw print to the south, before it starts to travel to north.

ok so i just got savage and he looks exactly like the cats in kun-lai nothing unique about him and super easy to find. the only diff between the 2 cats is savage has a lil bit darker blue eyes.

The way the tracks work on this mob are that each time he does a major change of direction or has been continuing in one direction for a while, he will spawn a new track.
They can be difficult to see at times so you may miss one and wonder where the hell he went. If this happens just continue along his spawn route until you find a new track, and if you don't see any ahead of that then he's likely right behind you!

Surprised nobody has mentioned this yet, but an easy way to know where he is is by following his tracks on foot, turn your sound on with music and ambience off.

You can judge approximately where he is because he emits a particular growl when you approach him.

Okay, so we (another hunter and myself) spent some time running around... you know, chasing the tracks for at least an hour. We tried lighting up flares every-time we lost the tracks but never saw the cat. With the ground settings at minimum made tracks easier to see.

Then we read that the cat will cross the rivers and we stayed on his typical path by one of the rivers and continued lighting up flares. We did this for about 30 minutes.

At one point I left to grab a cup of coffee and then lit up another flare... and there was a partial paw-print that was not there before facing right towards me. So I started chasing the prints until they stopped and my flares couldn't find him anywhere.

So back to the river I went where his paw-print was and lit up a few more flares. I faced the same direction as the previous paw-print was and began lighting up one flare right after the other.

Then... there he was walking right towards me. I put the hunters mark on him and tamed him immediately. He just kept walking right by me and I had an adrenalin rush trying to tame him before I lost him as other people wrote.

After taming him it took me a while to figure out how to take him off 'prowl' stealth mode from inside the pet spell-book. After all that work, the last thing I wanted was for him to be transparent.

This is a very pretty cat and it is nice that it is such a challenge to tame. I will certainly have respect for any hunter I see who has him as a pet.

Good luck finding him everyone. He does exist should you occasionally wonder if you will ever see him.

For those of you who do not have the stamina or schedule to wait for hours, like me :), the only way I could tame Savage and keep my sanity was by checking for tracks periodically. It works, yes even on a high pop server. I tamed him mid afternoon on a high pop server using this method. It took me about two weeks but I got it.

I know that I will probably get down rated for this strategy but it works and has always worked for me for years when it comes to taming rare pets and trying to track down rare spawns. But I would be remiss if I didnt at least try to get it out there.

after spotting his tracks by the river at 38.12 , 50.77 ( river crossing yes he does swim across) I waited for him/her to come around again after about 45-50mins of waiting he showed up. like the others have said use flare but fire it at the shore line

Got mine around 52,67 - 26,34 i was following tracks from 43,28 - 39,12 around there! The tracks where not backwards, you just follow them the way they look, at some point the tracks stop, and you can see them been created again as you follow, he is right there... use flare and you got him, was easy tame on Silvermoon EU took me around 1 hour.

Just tamed him at 3:38pm EST on Medivh. I found the best place to catch him with little aggro from other NPCs is at Coord 36/57 on the little hill that he walks up and down along his path. Used Flare to find him then Huntersmark to keep him visible. Tracks DO show the exact direction he is walking. Hope this helps. I also have submitted a screen shot of when I was in the process of taming him to try to help.

Tamed this beautiful thing at 5:45 server time on Stonemaul US. As said before he is not simply stealthed he is invisible. Find his tracks and try to get ahead of him. When you see a track pop on the ground ahead of you it's time to flare. Best of luck!

Tamed him Feb 19th at 2am - Scarlet Crusde server. At 1am several people were flying his path looking for him. I came upon the tracks quite by accident. I kept losing his tracks so I flew over to the pillar he walks past before crossing the road and then the river. Just kept dropping flares until he walked into one, hunters marked him, and tamed. He does not attack while taming. He keeps walking away. So after you mark him, get a little ahead to start the tame.

I managed to tame Savage within 15 minutes of waiting and not having to look for tracks.

On the map you'll see a large grouping of locations above The Arboretum (Location: 57 35) which just so happens to be a pinch spot, with very little room for him to deviate when walking.

At that location you'll find the tightest spot is between a tree (with a small rock next to it) and a large rock face, near the coast. If you place your flare in the middle of that spot, with an Ice Trap, to slow him down, you'll have no trouble in catching him at all.

Just remember to keep the flare up (you can start casting it again a second before it runs out) and to keep refreshing your trap. Once he becomes visible, put a hunters mark on him and then tame away.

Tamed at 17:45 at on Twisting Nether. (US server) Started from Sri-La Village and headed south west. I recommend to macro the TomTom waypoints given by the previous posters to make this a little easier for yourself. I didn't see any tracks until I hit the Forest Heart and had to back track until I caught up with him at 49.48, 30.32. Surprisingly it took 15-20 minutes to find the tracks, catch up, and tame him.

Just wanted to say that NPCscan will go off when Savage is nearby. Obviously you will not be able to target him since is invisible, but at least you know when you are close. Took me at least 30 min to track and tame him. Tamed him about an hour ago (10:40 pm PST) on Terenas.

Just tamed Savage on Azuremyst with my hunter Faerydae! Very easy tame...but good gosh, I was a nervous wreck finding him! Found him twice and he ran out of flare before I could get my hunter's mark on him. LOL

If you do not wish to spend a lot of time looking for Savage, the Summit prowlers found in Kun'lai summit are very similar. It is NOT the same skin though. The prowlers are more "dirty/dusty".

Just caught this striped beauty at 10:31 ST on stonemaul at 47.7 30.9. followed around 20 of his bloody foot prints (which go in the right direction) popped flares saw him once and lost sight of him, waited for the next foot print, popped another flare, HM and tamed him. Just wish I didn't have to abandon my green spirit tiger from Mt. Hyjal to catch him. BLIZZARD GIVE US MORE STABLE SLOTS PLEASE!

I helped my friend who is a hunter track him a couple of times and I wanted to point out some things I noticed.

*Only hunters can see his tracks, no other classes can
*Area of effect damaging abilities do not seem to work. I tried using Hurricane to keep Savage visible and he cloaked anyways (unlike Soruk champions)
*The debuff can be applied but will not keep Savage from cloaking
*Hunters mark will keep him uncloaked for the hunter but everyone else will not see him
*The hunter can attack him while hunters mark is active but doing so will simply make it look like the hunter is attacking air instead of revealing him
*The hunter's ability Flare makes him visible to all players as long as he is within it's range. During that time anyone can target him
*It could be a fluke but I added his id to NPC scan and it went off while my friend (the hunter) and I was questing so we walked towards it's path and shortly after she saw tracks.
*It can be rooted. I used Mass Entanglement and managed to keep it still long enough to be tamed.

I just tamed him today around 7pm eastern time on Wyrmrest Accord. I followed his tracks for a good hour or two before I SAW them forming, and started laying down flares to reveal him walking. He did not attack me, so I hopped in front of him after revealing him, laid a frost trap, and then tamed him (had to use trap because he resisted taming otherwise). I was getting really frustrated after hunting him that long, but it was worth it!

My main tip is to carefully follow the prints (they go in the right direction now), but not too quickly or you may not notice them forming. If you see a new one appear, drop a flare a few yards ahead and get ready to frost trap him.

Tamed this guy about 5 mins ago. it was pretty rough to find him. and even once i did find him it took me several attempts to tame him, he doesnt retaliate to attacks or to being tamed, he just keeps walking and once he is out of your flare thats it.

I used my first flare then used readiness and flared again in front of him. once you have more than 2 seconds drop an ice trap on front of him and pray he gets caught. once he is trapped its just tame as per normal. Fun times tracking.

Yikes, that was an effort! My best advice would be to bring a friend. I tagged him at the north end after less than half an hour probably, but I lost him thanks to nearby critters attacking me, which I could have ignored if I'd had somebody to take the heat off.

After losing him I overshot him, and spent another hour trying to trace his path to the river. Finally caught him again, but not until he hit the southern end of his path and went all the way back to the pond near Dawn's Blossom. Spotting tracks is DEFINITELY easier by the water, and in my case it also helped to turn up my monitor brightness and contrast to hideous levels. Tracking through the grove near the Jade Witch's hut, where there's a blurry effect in the air, was horrible for me eyes =_=;

Just tamed him on Alonsus EU... I wasn't actually looking for him but I noticed the tracks while doing some arcaeology. I lost the tracks but eventually picked them up again at the southern end of his patrol path. Took about 30 mins from whenI 1st saw the tracks till I tamed.

First off: thanks for the path, it helped a huge deal.

Finally got this little bugger after 2 hours.

I didn't have a clue what I was doing really, so here are my 'noob tips for noobs':

Firstly, tracking him: Just follow the path. My hunter is lvl 90, so I was on a flying mount, staying close to the ground, with a top down view. As well as providing a speedy way to track, it helps you lose aggro if you disturb anything. The trees can be damn annoying, but just sidestep. After a while, you should spot a footprint somewhere along the path. Make sure your current pet has been dismissed - when you find this mob, you have to be quick.

Second, when you do spot a print, move forward a bit and look for another. You'll probably follow a few of these trails before you get the hang of it. If the footprints stop, go back to the last one you saw and drop a flare slightly in front of it. I found that the print was pointing in the direction the mob was walking (although others have said this is not strictly an accurate sign of which direction he's walking in). Flares take a while to come off cooldown, so be patient - I found this the most frustrating part. The footprints will disappear after a while. If this happens, just keep looking along the path again (I'd say in the direction the prints were pointing).

Third, the tame: Eventually you should see him, once you've got the hang of the print/flare dance. He disappears quickly, so take note of which direction he's facing and ready your next flare. Drop it, and immediately target him and start taming - I have the glyph, and I got him just before he faded again. I tried to use hunter's mark earlier, but it didn't seem to stick. I didn't use a frost trap either, and seems I didn't need it.

Sorry for the wall of text, but I've tried to put it as accurately as I can to help out anyone who needs a very basic guide. I have just tamed him, around 5 minutes ago, so it's fresh. :D

I just tamed Savage on VeCo about 1p server time. Massive thank you to Emphyley's Blog for your amazing video that walked her path, that helped me a lot. I play on an old laptop with graphics set on "low" (any higher and I crash), so the option of searching for tracks is nearly impossible, even with ground clutter (thanks for suggestion in earlier comment) set on low.

What I ended up doing, (after watching the video) was wait at the very top where she turns around. I faced the way she would be approaching from and zoomed back on the area, so I could see the tracks as they were being made, walking towards me. I waited like that for an hour (I had just missed the tracks previously) and thought if I could get her coming and going I could have a better shot. She moves quick, and I caught her on the way back from her turn point. I know it's not as exciting as tracking, but it worked.

After I tamed her, I realized I had an animal that I thought had the exact skin, and it was close. If you are just looking for the "skin" (the white w. black stripes), and don't want to wait for Savage, you can go the cave just north and slightly east of Pearlfin Village. "Ruukti" is inside and stealthed. You can tame him easily and the skin looks almost exactly like Savage.

Tamed today at 5:44 CST on Malygos-US with a level 86 hunter. His walk is slower than I expected. It seems like he is always one step ahead of you, but he is just patting at a normal mob speed. The prints faced the correct way, and I found the suggestion of previous commenters to turn the ground clutter down VERY helpful. Track Hidden did not do anything to reveal him, so don't bother. Once he was revealed by the flare, I used Hunter's Mark on him, and this prevented him from re-stealthing.

My Savage was tapped already, but this did not interfere with the tame. Strangely, he couldn't be trapped with a Freezing Trap. He would just pat over it and keep going. Starting Tame Beast also didn't aggro him. I was using a Glyphed Tame Beast and tamed him as he was walking away, figuring that I wouldn't know if it worked until I tried. After taming, I was not able to change his name until I relogged, probably due to him being tapped.

Just caught this blighter, kept sort of dodging my flares.

Found it easiest to catch him by the lake behind Dawn's Blossom because he has to take quite a narrow path along side it, between the actual dirt path and water.

This was a nightmare tame - but worth it...

It took me about half an hour to actually find the tracks - going back and forth along the route and THEN - when I finally did find them - I was right about to tame - and got attacked by a worthless local tiger. Even though I killed him almost instantly - Savage disappeared and his tracks are so erratic - it took me nearly two hours to find him again...

I even had the ground clutter turned all the way down. His tracks go from being almost in a straight line to ultra zig zag hell to curvy and then all of a sudden they almost reverse direction and turn into a 90 degree twist... He's on drugs or something.

I finally found the tracks near the end of his route - followed them - and then watched as he got to the end - turned around and headed back the other direction... I finally caught up with him and tamed him at about 53,39 (right above the Arboretum).

I don't why it was so hard for me - maybe just being tired... Anyway - he's an awesome kitty - well worth the hassle...

Just tamed him and Stompy. Savage tracks popped up right where his spawn point starts. Dropped a flare, found him then put Hunter's Mark on him. Walked ahead and hit tame. Was easier to find then Stompy!

After rage quitting yesterday after about 2h of running around like a headless chicken I just camped my ass at one position in the middle of the path and waited for a trail. Got lucky and found him after about 10minutes.

Today I decide to take a look at Savage's trail. Ten minutes later, I have a feeling. He's here, I know it.
Not five seconds later, I see a paw print. I smile to myself. Gotcha, Savage.
It was nowhere near as easy as I had thought...
Paw prints, paw prints, more paw prints! A steady trail. But then, the trail screeched to a stop. I made a wide circle around the last print. Nothing.
So I quickly lay down a Flare in front of the print. No Savage. I run around, no prints.
After five solid minutes of looking for another print, I decide to continue down the trail in the direction the last print had been facing.
Three minutes later, BAM! Another print. I look around. No more prints. At all. Lay down a couple flares, no Savage.
Sigh. Continue down the trail. I see a print, which quickly melts into a flower. Oh great, now I'm seeing things!

Find his trail almost immediately, lose it, find it again. Continue down the trail, trying to catch him in a flare. Eventually I can't find a print and run around trying to find one. Finally see one, but it's pointing in the opposite direction than the others. I look at my map and see that I'm at the end of the trail. He had turned around, and I could have caught him!
You have got to be kidding me.

Still no Savage. I hope I get him soon, and good luck to you fellow hunters!

Thanks for the tips, got him in probably less than an hour:

1. Turn down ground clutter in graphics options
2. Fly along the path until you see the tracks
3. Follow them to the end and shoot your flare
4. Have Hunter's Mark ready ASAP - he restealthed twice because I wasnt fast enough, I also tried to serpent sting him but he just kept on walking, he keeps walking away after you Tame Beast too unlike other rares

I started looking for him and started research at 1:55 A.M, then i found a footprint, started looking for him following it. Lost 2 times ;D. Found and tracked then one footprint came from nothing... I thought: That is it. It's him. I need to flare and BANG there was he! Lovely, looking to his path without blink!

The tracks looked facing correct to me (where he's headed). I wonder if people are seeing tracks that seem backwards if he just turned around. In any case, I found him several times, and lost him several times, because when I tried hunter mark, it didn't work at first, so I hurried to try taming him. This is frustrating as even with tame beast glyph, he will quickly get out of your flare area and stealth. Be sure to have your hunter mark ready to spam him with it while looking for him. I would also advise being on a flying mount if you can but move slowly, to avoid adds quickly while following paw prints. Even an 85 creature at 90 can be enough delay to lose him, and you can't tame while being hit, unless you have marked him.

Also whenever I lost the tracks, I went back to the river where he crosses to restart.

Tamed at 5:54pm(EST) on Garona server. My first Pandaran rare pet!

Gotta say, the whole paw print tracking and making the pet invisible is a really nice touch. It makes getting the pet feel alot more accomplishing.

Haven't felt more glad to get a successful tame since I camped Sunwing for four hours.

I lost him about 5 times due to not knowing he keeps walking when you attack @_@ So don't do what I do: don't try to attack him to make him stop in his tracks, just TAME AWAY! ^^

A lot of comments about "I tamed him here, at this time," but everyone has neglected to mention...

This is one of the most beautiful cat skins I've seen yet. A very nice homage to the majestic white tiger. Skins like these make me wish that at times, hunter pets didn't have utility, so I wouldn't be forced to bring out pets for the raids benefit; Instead, I could pick any pet that looked good. I'd use this one for sure.

Something odd is happening to me the tracks come in threes, sometimes in fives. sometimes, one will face frontwards, and the next backwards. and so forth. When i went the opposite way of the first track i'd seen, and ignored the other ones, flared,

there he was.

and then when i tried to tame him, he did not react at all and just faded back into the darkness. WHAT TO DO? do i shoot it first and then tame? idk. i think its broken.

Just got him @ 7:12pm Jan 16/14 server time (Dragonblight US) followed the map till i saw the bloody prints, lost him several times and took a wild guess and dropped a flare and tamed

I tamed this beauty on Perenolde at 12:30pm realm time. He wandered through the end of three flares before I could tag him with Hunter's Mark (or Arcane Shot) and tamed him. If he isn't marked, he'll vanish again, but he's easily trackable from that point. A new footprint shows up every few steps he takes, so it's easy to determine where he's going and pop an advance Flare.
A challenge of a tame, being the first pet I've tracked and used flare on, but definitely worth the time it takes!

Tamed this morning at 07:45, Kul Tiras server, after some failed attempts of losing track. Now I know better, it's all about tactics, easier than you think :) He seems to be present wandering about so he's there, just maybe not exactly where you are (no need for spawnpoints, timers, etc).This works:

1) Get a nice spot on his path (see map below) with no mobs. I chose the very endpoint above waterfall, Shangri-La village.
2) Chose something to do on the spot while waiting for him to put his bloody marks on the ground there (jump in & out of batlegrounds/dungeons or craft some stuff etc). You need patience to stay for approximately an hour or so.
3) When bloody tracks appear, follow in forward direction and flare. Keep calm, he's walking very slow, so you will catch up.
4) When you "lost track" - that's where he's at (you just don't see him) - flare at the last track you've seen on the ground.
5) Put "Hunters mark" asap when he appears. He might vanish but he's there so keep on the tracks and try again.
6) Get close and tame. No freezing trap, no taunting or attacking, just get close and tame away. Beastmastery NOT needed to tame nor control him.

Tamed him today. I flared the area, and put down a freezing trap which he walked into. When the flare runs out and if you have failed to put a hunters mark on him, he will go back into stealth, despite being trapped.

I panicked for a moment when I saw him disappear, thought he despawned or something :D

Tamed this beatiful cat after 15 mins of tracking.It seems like when she completes her tour and returns ,old tracks disappear.If you're too unlucky with respawn timers or due to other hunters,try tracking in a low pop realm.

I just tamed Savage at loc 46, 34. I used the handy dandy way points some enterprising hunter posted on the forum and voila! He was there. The pictures don't do him justice.

Took me a really long time to track this cat down. I followed the tracks across the whole map and on the way back I was finally able to tame him. I saw him once at the upper right side of the map but didn't get Hunters Mark on him in time. Finally found him at about 54.9, 34.8.

Continually flare when you've lost the tracks. Flare a couple feet ahead of the tracks, you are probably standing on him. Make SURE you throw up Hunters Mark otherwise you WILL lose him. Then simply start taming him. No need for anything extra, just tame! Awesome pet! Well worth it, and very fun to track.

As per the brilliant strategy of a previous poster, I staked out the area at 56,35. Savage moves through a thin pass between a tree and a large rock there, making it easy to plant a flare and a freeze trap and wait.

How long you wait depends, and it can be a pain to constantly refresh flare and traps. But honestly? Trying to locate then follow her footprints was driving me nuts. So glad this method worked instead.

The first time I tried it, I went about twenty minutes before my eyes started to cross so I logged for dinner. Came back, set myself up, and within 5 minutes Savage appears in the flare and is frozen by my trap. I initially forgot to put Hunter's Mark on her, and she vanished on me. Set up another flare, and she was still there. HM, quick tame, done.

Named her Shi, Japanese word for death. Seemed appropriate since the color white is often associated with funerals and death in that culture.

Just tamed her on the PTR at 7:24 PM realm time.

At first I was puzzled by what exactly I was looking for. I knew I was looking for paw markings in the ground, but I had found none until I reached the other end of the cat's patrol route (Near the valley of the four winds entrance), they were pointing opposite my direction, so I turned back and started hitting that flare button. A good tip is, if you go ahead of the paw markings and you cannot find any more and you've made sure you can't see any ahead of you, put the flare right on yourself, Savage will walk right into it. I noticed that if you just try to tame her without ice trapping her, she'll casually walk away out of the flare zone and disappear. Good luck taming her, Hunters!

For the lazier hunters,like myself,here is a tip. . Sit at 53.2 24.0 - and spam freezing trap/flare before you. This si the end of her path when she turns around,if she is up,you'll find her in 40 minutes or less,depends on your luck. I was there for ~20 minutes and just got her. Eric's Guide to Not Gouging Your Eyes Out While Trying to Tame Savage!

Are you a young upstart of a hunter looking for a rare pet with a ballin' skin?
Have you attempted to tame Savage, only to find out there are key pieces of information you wish you'd known before you blew several hours of your time, your aorta, or your nose?
Well then, dear friends, look no further than this handy pocket-guide.

After discovering this beast of a beast existed, I delved into this website's repository of comments in order to arm myself with the deadliest weapon any hunter can wield: knowledge. Yet even after exhausting the tips and tricks posted by the good people who've left comments before me, I found there was still much I had to learn before Savage would be mine.

Savage Ain't Got Time for That

He stops for no man. Your flare is like a jacked up Thunderdome for him: One Savage enters; one Savage leaves.
What's that you say? You'll just drop a freezing trap? Nosir, Savage ain't got time for that; watch as he waltzes right through your surgically placed trap.
Well duh, you're thinking, just attack him so he starts attacking you. <insert an expired Equus ferus caballus with which to wallop here> Because even that is something for which Savage lacks a chronometer; he will continue to do that which he has done for millennia.

But Eric... if Savage is truly the unstoppable juggernaut many have claimed him to be, then how is it that you have tamed him?

Well I'm glad I asked.

Hunter's Mark is your friend. While attacking Savage does nothing to stop his forward progression, applying Hunter's Mark (either through Explosive Shot, Arcane Shot, etc., or using the spell) seems to keep him out of stealth for another second or two after walking out of Flare's range. I was unable to tame him without the glyph, haste buff, etc., while simply relying on his duration within Flare. Once I applied Hunter's Mark, I barely got the tame to finish before it looked like he would stealth again.
Use Flare sparingly; and be patient with its cooldown. I've gotten to what I thought was the last track dozens of times only to Flare prematurely and notice one last track. It can get incredibly difficult to gauge his direction and speed while waiting for Flare to come off CD in those situations.
Be patient! I cannot stress this enough (and others have stressed it too). Turn your ground clutter all the way down and patiently start following Savage's route laid out on the excellent map on this page. When you find a track and the adrenaline starts pumping, focus and methodically attempt to locate his final print. A few times I noticed that he was almost to a few of the coords others have posted as their favorite spots to tame him. Head up to them and keep popping Flare. If things go south, just keep following the pattern until you catch up to him again or meet him at another pre-determined location.

I hoped this has helped at least one other aspiring collector. Good luck, and goodnight.

Unfortunately this pet no longer has a unique skin, since it is now shared with the Primal Stalkers of Timeless Isle.

It is, however, still extremely fun and "huntery" to tame, tracking via the footprints left around Jade Forest.

Just got it on Garona server at 4:50pm. I lost the cat a few times and had to back track to follow the tracks again and saw one appear in front of me, so flared and got it ! Took me a few hours of following/flaring.

For those of you trying to tame him post 6.0.2, after the removal of hunter's mark, I found an ideal location:

(sorry, no co-ord mod installed at the moment, but screenshot of map and terrain included in link)

At the location I have my flare placed, Savage patrols 2/3rds of the way through it going from right to left, then turns and starts heading towards where I am standing. Because of where he entered the flare, this means he spends extra time in it, resulting in plenty of time to tame him (with the minor glyph).

It takes him about 10 minutes to go from the south-western side of his route up to the location I show.

THIS IS VERY TIME CONSUMING AND STRESSFUL!
If you're anything like me and he is literally in front of you spawning, drop your flare and IMMEDIATELY USE YOUR ICE TRAP. DO NOT WAIT! It will trap him and you will have time to tame him. At first I was dropping my flare then as soon as he disappeared I'd drop my ice trap. DON'T MAKE THIS MISTAKE. He will go right through your trap while he's stealthed. He stays stealth his entire time. I followed him for almost two hours. If you don't drop your ice trap fast he will continue to move and you can either lose his tracks or have to wait for you flare CD and ice trap CD.
I actually haven't caught him yet because I kept repeating my mistakes over and over again. ALSO, he goes the route described in the screenshots you've seen, he does eventually turn around and go back the way he started. For me he started at 53.34,23.98 this is where I realized he was right in front of me walking.

Just tamed him post-6.0.2 after tracking the SOB for the better part of 3 hours. I used a combination of the below posts, such as the Waypoint feature of TomTom.

Also, I very highly recommend once you hit him with the flare and trap him, DO NOT begin the tame. The trap lasts for 1:30, so be patient and re-flare him. There's a ~1.5 second window where you can cast a new flare before the old one fades.

So basically, you want to Flare > Trap > wait 19 seconds > Flare AGAIN > Tame.

Now the only question is: what do I name him?

Just got back on wow after 5 years. I heard about Savage. I found him and tried taming him for about an hour. What am I doing wrong. I'm currently at level 85. Is that a problem being 85. Should I try when I'm hire?

Found a great way to tame him since they removed hunters mark, well it worked for me anyway :S. I waited for him at 38' 50 where you can cross the river in forrest heart, I kept throwing flares up waiting for him to appear. Once he appeared I thew another flare up in front of his walk path, with an ice trap for good measure (not sure if the ice trap had any effect) he appeared again so I hit him with concussive shot to slow him further and began to tame. Now savage is mine. Took all of 20 minutes of waiting for him to show up but worth it :) Happy hunting ^^

Don't bother searching for Savage over lvl 90. Just go to Timeless Isle and you have hundreds of tigers just like this one... They're lvl 92.

I discovered this with my hunter, after taming this one.. Got pretty sad..

Didn't realise I could mark him to stop him vanishing, however I did tame him by hitting him with a concussion to slow him down as he walks through the flare. It was close though, just got the tame in as he vanished.

As some of you are aware, Hunter's Mark is no longer an option when trying to tame Savage. Through trial and error, I've tried several methods (with little to no progress).

Ice trapping him doesn't work. The trap will trigger, but once the ice wears off, Taming Beast doesn't stick and he vanishes back into his prowl.

Hitting him doesn't aggro him. He shrugs it off as though it were nothing. Other than buddying up with another hunter to have him spam flares, I don't know what else to do.

Anyone have any luck?

Tamed Savage on 28-5-2015 (5-28-2015 American date)
Used freezing traps first and then flares in front of his footprints.
It's a bit tricky, but did not take too many tries with freezing trap. About 7 tries.

I just tamed him 1h ago. It took me a while to figure it out how to do it without Hunter´s mark. It can be done also without taming glyph. What you have to do:

1. look out for the tracks
2. use flare
3. when you will see him, you have to use freezing trap + wyern sting (you have to use both, because when i tried just one or another, it doesn´t give you enough time for taming)
4. enjoy your new pet :P

Got him today after about 10 min tracking. I found him at around 55.8 - 32.2. When the track stops he is usually just ahead of it, if you miss him a new track will spawn pretty soon so just use "flare" ahead of the track (they point in the direction he's walking), if lfare is on CD you can also use freezing trap, because he will get caught in it, at least it did in my case before I used flare on him.

To tame him:
1. Flare
2. Freezing Trap
3. Wyvern Sting
4. and tame it with no problem (at level 85). :)

The look is the same as Primal Stalker's in Timeless island, but if I'm not mistaken Savage has glowing blue eyes with no pupils (much more cool). Anyway awesome pet!

Just helped a friend tame this beauty around 52.8, 30.8 (tamed my own back in MoP). We split to look for the tracks in different places of his route, effectively ending in absolutely opposite corners of the path.

I was the one to find Savage and used Freezing Trap on top of him to keep him pinned until my friend arrives.

I have to say, I had a little derp moment of going "Ohmaigad, he reset!1" when Savage disappeared, although it only lasted few seconds before I re-applied Flare and calmed :D

If you're wondering how to tame this pet now that Hunter's Mark and Freezing Trap are gone from BM and Marks, one way is Flare first then Binding Shot on top of it. Make sure you're right in it's path.

Just tamed Savage this second!

Set my flare and Freezing trap at 44:39. Was standing at 45:39. North most lake near Dawn's Blossom.
Was only there for about 10mins when he walked into my flare and set the trap off.
He was in my trap when the flare died but I just let off another flare and tamed as he was still in the trap.

For those who are collecting & in a hurry & don't want a long wait:

Easiest way I found to tame Savage:

Go to coordinates 53.22, 23.84 in the Jade Forest.

Facing south, position yourself by the small half-dead, 1/2-browning tree on your left.
Continue to face south; you will see 2 trees in the distance, with a medium-sized boulder near the trees. You will have a porcupine & a tiger that will spar every few minutes. Frag them to get them out of your way.

Keep firing your flare, he will show up right in front of you. Use Wyvern Sting to make him snooze for a bit, then make sure you have enough light left on your flare...if not, get ready to use the Wyvern Sting again if necessary, then use the flare again, then tame. Done!

If you miss getting him the moment he appears in front of you but see his footsteps, I'm not certain but he might double-back...I say this only because I saw 2 fresh footprints going each way, which leads me to think this. But as I said, I'm not certain. This is a great area to tame him because he paces in a straight line for a bit, giving you less confusion about which way did he go. Some of the rares will be heading one direction and then turn on a dime & head a completely different direction, which will mess you up while waiting for the cool-down timer on your flare. By then, he could have gone in 4 different directions, and be out of your flare's range.

If you have a different Talent Point than Wyvern Sting: I don't recommend this when taming one of the disappearing rares, it will make your life so much easier to select Wyvern Sting while you are in taming mode. You have to go to an Inn or major city to change the talent point, then can always change it back.

When my friends ask me to change servers I gladly oblige. However, I simply can't reroll a hunter because of all the time and effort put into taming my favorite pet. I don't want to do it again either. I saw that petopia says the timeless isle cats can now be tamed. But it'd be a hollow victory. Not to mention Gondria camping again...plz no.

There's a narrow passageway, a sort of natural ramp up the rocks, that Savages travels up and down on his route.

If you want a camping spot, here is good - you can keep your flare and ice trap up until he just walks right into it.

Worked for me not five minutes ago.

I just wanted to make an updated note on taming, as most of what is here is 10 years old.

The map with the coordinates is accurate. Although, I didn't follow point by point so much, as look at it as a linear wandering path. I removed the ground clutter, took a look at what the footprints look like in the screenshots, and went for a walk. When I did eventually see footprints, I dismissed my pet and started to spam Flare. As soon as I saw him, I used Hunter's Mark, and hit Tame. Oddly, he did not aggro when I started to tame..he kept walking his path. So, you need to be quick about it.

At any rate, he is still out there. Just look for the footprints. They appear as kind of a charcoal color, and look exactly like the screenshots. Just go in the direction they point, spam Flare, and you'll find him. Good luck!

Attention Hunter's - to improve your success with finding this beast you need the spell "Flare" to reveal the stealth effect that this cat uses to hide. This spell is not available until level 19. So if your during this by yourself wait till you reach level 19.

Finally got him, was actually kind of a fun hunt. Just find and start following the bloody tracks. The part that was driving me crazy was you only had a small window to tame during the flare so i had to make sure I placed the flare in front of his path. Frozen trap didn't work for me. I also thought of the Soft Foam sword to aggro them tame, but he was an invalid target. Ended up getting him at 57.29 & 37.30
